Anniversaire Café Omotesando — Restaurant in Tokyo

One star goes to the front desk supervisor we met that day.

A Japanese friend in Tokyo recommended this afternoon tea place, so I came with my family (three of us in total). Each of us had booked the afternoon tea set, which costs around 7,000–8,000 yen per person.

When we arrived, the front desk staff were very friendly and spoke good English. It felt like a promising start. The restaurant wasn’t busy at the time, and there were plenty of empty tables.

But once we were seated, the service completely fell apart. The server simply told us to “order” and then left—without explaining any rules or procedures. Since we had made a reservation, we thought the afternoon tea set would be brought out automatically.

To our surprise, guests who were seated after us started receiving their desserts while we were still waiting. A staff member came back and said, “You need to order. You only have XX minutes left,” and left again.

We scanned the QR code on the table. I asked a server, “There’s no English version?” She replied, “There is,” then immediately walked away. Throughout the whole experience, the servers only repeated a few English words over and over. No effort was made to explain anything clearly.

We were left sitting there, confused, so we randomly ordered six items. A few minutes later, we realized most of them were drinks. We wanted to cancel them quickly, but again, no one came to help. We tried to get the attention of the servers, but they all seemed to deliberately ignore us, constantly walking around without making eye contact.

Eventually, I had to physically stop one of them, but again, they just kept repeating the same few English words, asking us to order. We spoke slowly in English, even mixed in some Japanese to show that I could understand a bit. Still, they refused to explain anything in Japanese—even when we tried using Google Translate.

We tried to explain that we had already reserved the afternoon tea set and were just waiting for it, but they kept insisting we place an order. When they finally looked at our order history, all they said—over and over—was, “You ordered so many drinks?????”

But the set we booked includes unlimited drinks, and six drinks between three people is not excessive. We drank all of them—nothing was wasted.

Even at small local cafes or old-fashioned shops, staff usually make sure foreign customers have ordered properly. Even if their English isn’t perfect, they’ll try their best to explain in Japanese.

I’ve lived in many countries, including in Europe, and I have never encountered a café with such poor training, especially at this price point.

今回は『アニヴェルセルカフェ表参道』さんへ。

表参道沿いにあり、以前から「このフランスの宮殿のような建物は何⁈』と気になっていたお店です。

エントランスにはテラス席、店内にもカフェスペースがあります。中庭には大きなチャペルまで…ここは結婚式場でもあるんです。

こんな豪華で幸せあふれる場所でアフタヌーンティーができるなんて素敵すぎる🥰

今のテーマは『抹茶』です。

まずケーキスタンド などのカトラリーの美しさにうっとり。アニヴェルセルカフェ表参道のロゴ『A』がエレガントです。

スイーツは抹茶がふんだんに使用されています。抹茶の円やかさやほろ苦が活かされた洋菓子や、もちもち食感がたまらないわらび餅など和菓子もあり、バラエティ豊か！

ちょいちょい柑橘系もあり、これがまた爽やかで抹茶スイーツと相性バッチリです。

セイボリーも充実していて、しかも盛り付けがオシャレです。

旨みたっぷりのキッシュはミルフィーユ仕立てで、食材の層の色合いも綺麗✨サンドウィッチはバラの花に盛り付けられたサーモンとアボカド、ピンチョスはキウイと生ハムでみずみずしいお料理。抹茶の緑とアボカドやキウイの色が調和していますね。

ドリンクも種類が豊富で驚きました。 日本での標準的な軟水で、バランスの良い味わいの紅茶が楽しめる日本の紅茶ブランド『Les Feuilles Bleues（ﾌｨｰﾕﾌﾞﾙｰ）』、ドイツの紅茶ブランド『ALTHAUS』の茶葉がラインアップ。京都の『小川珈琲』のコーヒーやラテなどもありました。ソフトドリンクも色々とあるのでコーヒーや紅茶が苦手な方もオッケーですね。

おすすめはテーマに合わせ『抹茶黒蜜ラテ』、甘くないラテなので、甘さは別添えの黒蜜でお好みに調整できます。

そして暑くなってきた時期に嬉しい『シトラスハーブス』は柑橘の爽やかさが楽しめます。オレンジやライムの果実もたっぷりで、映えて美味しいドリンクです。

そしてアフタヌーンティーを注文した方には、お店の方に写真を撮って頂いた自分達の写真を、もしくはお店の写真がプリントされたラテを１杯注文できます。

This cafe is collaborating with FENDI until Feb. 14, and its interior and menu are very popular with women, who queue up every day.
