I wanted to order the 3000 yen Schweinshaxe for me and my son. but we dont like Knoedel. We prefer potatoe dumpling with it. So we asked to switch and serve us the potato dumplings from the Eisbein. Answer: No. I asked why? Answer: No. Then i asked if they could ad a little dark sauce since there is none in the picture. Answer: no. i asked why? Answer: No, its without sauce on the Octoberfest. Seriously? So i asked to ad sauce from another dish. i could pay extra. after 5 minutes discussion with the owner they served a spare rib sauce and charged 500 yen on top. Seriously?
When the Schweinshaxen was served i had to look twice to find it. On the second attempt i managed to locate it behind the Knoedel. It was really really tiny and i knew already i would not get any off it since my 7 year old said: hmmmm yummy :-) So i ended up with one bite and was honored with the Knoedel and Sauerkraut.
Taste: Schweinshaxen: really delicious. slightly crispy skin and juicy meat. but too much fat (30%). and far too small for a normal person. Looks big in the picture but it’s 50% bone and 30% fat.
Knoedel: was not a Knoedel at all. more like a Bratkartoffeln which barely held together and fell apart with the first touch.
Sauerkraut: no taste. boring and bland.
Ending up with 5000 yen for a Micro Schweinshaxen with 500 yen extra sauce and 2 water........
maybe somebody understand why we feel ripped off. Went home to eat some apple pie for both of us because we still were...
Read moreAs a German, this place is very difficult to rate. On one hand, it does have a rather great selection of beer both in terms of quality and selection, on the other food was rather so-so. We had the mixed sausage plate and the quality was mid at best. Grilled sausage were barely brown for example and the Thuringian sausage was anything but that. I can image them doing better with dishes like Schnitzel but we haven’t tried this. So, if you’re looking for a place to have a beer, or you’re feeling a bit homesick then this place is an easy 4, even 5 star, if you’re planning to eat there, I’d recommend you remember that getting German meat products is very difficult in Japan and adjust my expectations...
Read moreThese sausages are not German!
The restaurant has a nice style, friendly stuff and good beer. Unfortunately the sausages are typical Japanese ones. I had the grilled set of 4 types. The Nürnberger were still the best of them. The others felt like made of cheap meat and a lot of fat, which gave them a greasy texture. It's typical in Japan, but not in Germany. Grilled with fat in a pan and eaten with the American tyle mustard was disappointing. I also had the Obatzter, which was just overflavored with dill. There was no cheese taste anymore.
Maybe other dishes are better, but I do not recommend to go there, if you want to eat real German sausages. You...
