Bubby’s Akasaka — Restaurant in Tokyo

Let me summarize my expierence with this restaurant.I tried this restaurant twice. Both times we received the worst customer service from a snobbish waiter in Tokyo.

Our first vist was on a Sunday. We wanted to go for a nice Brunch, so we walked through Ark Hills and discovered "Bubby’s Ark Hills". From outside it seemed to be a good place. We asked the waiter if it would be possible to sit outside. We had than to choose our own space outside. Nearly 20 mins after we had received the menu we were finally adressed again if we would be ready to order. We ordered to large breakfast including coffee, scrembeled egg, bacon, sausagge and pancakes. For this we waited 30 mins(coffee came after 7 min). In response to my question after 25min: "Why does it takes so long?" The waiter just said that we have to wait till its ready. It would simple be like that. And he turned and walked away. Breakfast came and was good quality. I have nothing to critisice. But we had finised coffee alreay and wanted to order a second one but the waiter was dissapered and nobody else showed up again. As the check! is here they are fast! was on the table we stood up and paid.

The second time we went there was as well a Sunday. Same situation as the Sunday before. Just the fact that it had rained in the night so some tables outside were wet. Inside the restaurant it was quite full so asked the same waiter if it would be possible instead of wainting 40min to sit outside. He said: Well everything is full. I said: Well there are five table wet can you clean them and we can sit there. He said. No not possible to clean tabel. He went inside.

Never ever...

ZERO RECOMMENDATION. Speechless. Not a positive restaurant experience in the slightest.

Ordered the Griddle breakfast and received a dish with each item on it being undercooked or obliterated. A puddle of holistically undercooked and tasteless scrambled eggs, crunchy undercooked potatoes, an undercooked pink sausage, something that looked like a pancake but was basically mashed potato, and a single piece of bacon that had become so dry it crumbled. This dish was taken back to the front of house staff by myself and requested to be removed from the bill. With no confidence in the food I went without for the duration of the stay, which turned out to be a great idea as I needed to use their soapless, not restocked toilet multiple times with an upset stomach. Unable to wash my hands or dry them.

Once the order for food was taken on arrival and delivered we didn’t see another member of the front of house team at our table. Not one of the team came to ask if things were okay, or to even clean our dirty plates for 30+ minutes past people finishing. The dirty plates were only cleared upon a coffee being delivered after a member of our table went to the bar to order said drink (waited 30+ minutes for a second order of pancakes to this coffee). Zero professionalism in the restaurant trade has been shown throughout this shocking visit.

There were four tables total in use during our time at this establishment and at least four FOH staff members. Not busy in the slightest, so zero excuse for this. FOH staff talk extremely quiet and do not put any amount of energy into their job.

A waste of time and energy for customers and the people...

Caramel Pumpkin Pie 🎃🥧 @bubbys_japan

Heading to the subway station after a coffee meeting, I passed through Akasaka Ark Hills and couldn't resist taking out one of Bubby's pies to eat back at the office. 🚶🏻

Bubby's always have a great selection of pies, including classics such as Mocha Pecan, Apple Crumble, Cheese Cake & Banana Mocha. However I was in the mood for something different so went for their Caramel Pumpkin pie, which is available until the end of November. 🗓

The size of the slice is quite generous, and the whipped cream and caramel sauce is packed separately. 🎁

First impressions were the smooth and rich pumpkin - you can taste that there have been spices added to the recipe (cinnamon, nutmeg) which make it delicious enough on its own. 🎃

However, what elevates this to the next level are the caramel sauce (gooey, thick, dark & bittersweet) and the whipped cream (sweet, but overly so) which match perfectly with the pumpkin taste. 🤤

The only negative comment I have is that this pie is not available all year round, because if it was I would definitely eat it at least once a month, probably more! 😋

So maybe that is a positive thing, after all, considering that it must contain quite a few calories...! 😆
