This is a foreigner friendly tempura restaurant that you don’t need to speak Japanese to have a uniquely Japanese experience. It is on the third floor in the arkhills plaza that is next to ANA intercontinental.

Went with my family with an empty stomach and it looked intimidating because it’s a small place with all locals eating there. However, you can order directly with the ticketing machine and there are English explanations for the different options. We all went with set meals and there are just a few to choose from to make things easy.

After you get your ticket (1 meal per person as per local tradition), you get seated with hot tea, pickled vegetables and pickled squid. You get rice and miso soup as part of the meal and the soup comes with multiple fresh clams, which was a nice surprise.

The tempura comes served by the chef with personal, 1 on 1 explanation for what just finished cooking and getting placed into your plate. Even though the chef spoke very little English, you get direct and attentive interactions. The batter is egg based and super thin, not oily and complements all of the flavor. You can use the spice combinations the chef recommends or experiment to taste.

Our favorites were the fried egg with runny yolk (seemed impossible until I had it), squid that melted in your mouth, maitake mushroom and giant eel piece, but everything was done to perfection. Pictures you see just do not do the food justice.

The prices were extremely low for what you got and you will walk away stuffed, don’t miss this place if you...

Kaneko Hannosuke is a treasure trove for tempura aficionados, where every crispy bite feels like a culinary revelation. Arriving early is advisable, but even if you have to wait, the experience is undoubtedly worth it. The Tempura Rice, a signature dish, is a symphony of flavors and textures. Picture this: freshly fried tempura—shrimp, kisu, kakiage, kashiwa, pumpkin, eggplant, maitake mushroom, shishito pepper, and egg—nestled atop perfectly cooked rice. Each ingredient is meticulously prepared, resulting in a harmonious blend that dances on your palate.

Among the highlights are the Conger Eel Tempura Rice, where the succulent Edomae conger eel steals the show, and the Shrimp Tempura Rice, featuring plump shrimp alongside an array of other delectable tempura delights. The accompanying miso soup and pickles further elevate the meal, adding depth to an already delightful experience.

Kaneko Hannosuke is not just a restaurant; it's an ode to the artistry of tempura-making. With impeccable service and a menu that celebrates the finest ingredients, it's a culinary journey worth embarking on time...

This tempura spot offers a truly local dining experience. You pay in advance using an automatic machine with English instructions, then wait in line until a spot becomes available. Despite visiting during lunchtime when it was mostly filled with local office workers, the line moved quickly. Once seated, the service was a bit slow (though it wasn’t clear why.) However, when the food arrived, it was well worth the wait! The meal set includes your choice of tempura, rice, a bowl of miso soup, and hot tea—a complete and satisfying experience. The tempura was light, crispy, and not greasy at all, with perfectly balanced flavors. The highlight was the egg tempura, which remained runny inside—perfect for mixing with leftover rice to finish the meal on a rich and delicious note. Overall, this was a very satisfying meal with great value for money. Highly recommended for an authentic and affordable...
