My recent visit to this yakitori restaurant took an unexpected turn despite the inviting ambiance and the prospect of a delightful evening. Two lady friends had ordered the full set omakase menu, and I came to say hello grab a drink and exchange holiday greetings before our departure for a long trip.
Despite the restaurant's near-empty setting—with only another couple seated at the opposite side of the kitchen—the waiter's perplexing request for me to leave dampened the evening. It's worth noting that I was merely there to extend greetings while my companions indulged in the comprehensive omakase menu.
This puzzling situation left me questioning the establishment's understanding of hospitality, especially considering the comprehensive order placed by my friends. One would expect a more inclusive atmosphere, particularly when the venue is not bustling with patrons.
While the restaurant boasts a nice and authentic ambiance, the treatment I received overshadowed the positive aspects of the visit. Read moreToriko specializes in chicken dishes and is one of my go-to lunch spots whenever I’m in Tokyo. I have two favorite places when it comes to yakitori (chicken skewers) lunch deals and this is one of them (the other place that I like is Isehiro in Kyobashi).
I usually get the yakitorijyu when I come to Toriko for lunch, but make sure you get here early because they only have twenty per day. Don’t be disappointed if you can’t get one though because their other lunch sets are just as good. In fact I sometimes get the other lunch deals even if I am the first person to here because the other options are really good. The other two lunch items that I usually order are the soborojyu (minced chicken over rice) and their oyakodon (chicken and egg over rice). All of the lunch deals come with salad, pickled vegetables, miso soup and a...
Read moreThis is a wonderful little business lunch spot very close to the InterContinental Hotel and relatively close to Tokyo Tower. Although there is seating at the bar for yakitori dishes, we sat at a small table (there is additional seating in the back). The service was excellent and our waiter was patient as we tried to order with poor Japanese and English mixed together on Day 1 in Japan. The LUNCH SETS were delicious and well priced. This place is difficult to find if you are not looking for it. (Too delicious to photograph...
