600 yen for French toast? What’s the catch? 😗 I found out ….
Had this place saved for years!
A cafe somewhat hidden in shin-okubo I lived in Shin Okubu but never walked over past it.
Came at 10:40am and found out the sneaky catch.
They got a morning menu that shows the French toast for 600. I looked everywhere nothing said a drink required so tried to order it.
Server told me I couldn’t order from morning menu without a drink. Drinks are 600 yen plus and no discounts in morning so it’d be around 1200 yen total.
Several other travelers during my time at cafe also made same mistake, ordering just the morning menu item without a drink. Seems to happen often …
This feels a bit slimy.
Okay so was forced to order the French toast from the ‘grand menu’ for 980 What I thought would be 600 yen, just got a 63% price increase 😔
Overall still not bad price for two pieces of French toast. The shadiness is the issue 🫠
I don’t mind the drink required but make sure you advertise it. Otherwise it seems you’re making the prices seem cheaper but they aren’t in reality (Better promo would be just saying drink would get discount in the morning)
Anyway how was the French toast?
Surprisingly big. Two good slices of soft toast, easily cut without a knife. Butter, whip cream and syrup provided.
The French toast do taste a bit eggy. 🥚 Not really a problem tho with the whip cream or syrup 😙
Overall would recommend if you’re in area. Just know what’s up with the tricky menu practices.

Read moreWhen we first arrived in Tokyo, I had a lot of work to finish before I could enjoy my vacation. This was the perfect spot to work on my laptop! I sat at the counter overlooking the street and made sure to order new food or drinks every couple of hours to make sure I was paying for my use of the seat, which allowed me to try quite a few things. I worked there almost all day and got everything done and was able to enjoy the rest of my vacation, and the staff were incredibly kind to me to allow me to do that. The counter has outlets, and there is also WiFi available.
The food and drinks were great all around. The breakfast toasts and french toast were delicious, and I loved the pasta for lunch. Highly recommend, and I can't...
Read moreCame here twice for breakfast with family as it was close to our hotel and it was excellent both times. The staff is friendly and can speak English and provide English menus, the atmosphere is calm and relaxing, and there is a surprisingly large amount of seating. The food was all freshly made and exquisite - soft and fluffy french toast, creamy and sweet pudding, crispy and tender fried chicken and pork cutlets (which came with what I think was wasabi mayo on it), and smooth freshly brewed coffee. Highly recommend if you're staying nearby or passing through Okubo for...
