I came here for breakfast on my last day in Tokyo, and considered myself lucky to have found somewhere open at 8am on a Sunday morning (since Tokyo is a city that gets going quite late).
I'm really glad I did. This is a wonderful little American style diner that opens for breakfast and lunch. The latter is sandwich focussed, but the former is all about the pancakes (pictured, with cream, sliced banana and maple syrup) which are fantastic. I can also recommend the coffee, which was some of the best I had anywhere in Tokyo.
Both eat-in and takeout options are available. I stayed in to dine, and was able to get a table for one without any problems, but it does get busy so fair warning if you're in a bigger party.
The vibe is chilled, with great music. On my visit, the clientele seemed to be largely American tourists (possibly taking advantage of jet lag to make an early start), a few other tourists (including me) and some locals. The staff speak excellent English, and credit/debit cards are accepted, so this is a great spot for visitors from overseas.
The location is very close to Hamacho subway station on the Toei line, so even if you're not in the area, it's easy to make the trip there, and well worth it...
Read moreI arrived a little after 9 AM, and the restaurant was at least 75% full, with only counter seats available. The interior has five counter seats, one loveseat sofa, one four-seater table, and four two-seater tables.
The morning menu offers a choice between sandwiches or pancakes. I chose the latter, ordering the Lumberjack for JPY 1500, which included two buttermilk pancakes, two eggs over-medium, and two strips of bacon.
The pancakes came with a dusting of powdered sugar, a tiny thimble of pancake syrup, and a generous dollop of what seemed to be house-made butter—it was light, airy, and fluffy. The pancakes themselves were sufficiently dense with a mild fluffiness, much like American country-style pancakes, and were very well done. The eggs were cooked together rather than separately. The bacon was prepared Japanese-style (grilled and lightly soft) rather than American-style crispy, but a knife still cut through it easily.
Based on the patrons (mostly Americans), the place appears to cater to guests from nearby hotels. While it was a novelty to have an American-style breakfast in Tokyo, the limited egg options (e.g., no poached, over-easy, or over-hard) and the lack of pancake syrup make it feel...
