New Year's Eve in Tokyo – Had a Blast!
Visited this on a Sunday morning. While it's crowded, with some new parents taking beautiful official photos with their babies, it took us less than 5 minutes queue for the main praying line. Here are the steps for praying for reference: 1. Place your cash offering into the box 2. Shake the rope to ring the bell 3. Bow twice 4. Clap your hands twice 5. Ending step 3 with your palms joined and say your prayer 6. Bow once As I observe, each group (can be couples, friends, parent and child) does the above steps in unison :D There is also another queue to get into the building on the side. Not very sure how it works, but it seems like you can go in for the more comprehensive praying done, such as writing down your prayers, getting assistance on specific prayers etc.
This is part of the seven lucky gods' shrines throughout the immediate Ningyōchō area. Shrine goods like goshuin are sold right beside the main area -- it can't be missed, but on busy days goshuin are sold one floor above that main area instead. Many, many types of goshuin are available, so for collectors it might be worth multiple visits. Many other services are available here too, such as blessing services for your children's wellbeing, and the place is very popular for visiting to pray for your children and family. The architecture is intriguing, since it is a second-floor shrine nested within the beating heart of Ningyōchō's urban area right by the train station. Definitely worth a visit or multiple.
We came here to pray and get a talisman for good luck falling pregnant, this shrine was easy to find and really well upkept. There was a statue of a mother dog and a puppy with circle domes around it representing the year you were born with the kanji for the animal of your zodiac year you rub the dome with your year and then the mother dogs belly and the puppy dogs head for good luck conceiving and and good luck for a safe delivery. We went into the main building to buy the good luck charm and wrote down my name on the form to have the priest pray for our sucess. It was a really nice experience and we saw some people bringing their babies into the shrine to thank the preists for their dream coming true.
