Don’t be afraid to come to this place — it’s truly a hidden gem. We were extremely fortunate to have spots available when we walked in, which already made us feel lucky. I want to thank the family for their warm hospitality and the amazing food they prepared for us.
We stayed at a nearby Airbnb and found this restaurant on Google Maps. There were only a few English reviews, but they all spoke highly of it, which gave us the courage to give it a try.
It’s a small, cozy spot with roughly 10 seats, run by a lovely family — the grandma, grandpa, and, I believe, their daughter. There’s no printed menu, but they kindly used Google Translate to help us order.
We started with their signature sashimi platter — incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. They also gave us a small note in English to choose which fried dishes we wanted. We ended up ordering half the menu, and you can really tell how much time and care they put into every dish. The fried items had a light, fluffy texture with a perfectly balanced batter — not heavy like tonkatsu or tempura, but delicate and crisp in its own way.
Then we ordered one of their fish dishes boiled, which the chef prepared right in front of us. It was so flavorful and tender that we couldn’t resist ordering two more fish dishes cooked in different styles afterward.
The onigiri stuffed with salmon and kombu was another highlight — so good that we immediately ordered another, this time a grilled version, the yaki onigiri, with a deliciously crispy outer layer.
We kept asking what else they recommended, and they were so kind to explain and offer us more to try. Everything tasted amazing, and the warmth of their hospitality made it even more special. At the end of the meal, they even gave us handkerchiefs as souvenirs and offered us some of their local peaches.
This dinner was one of the highlights of my entire trip to Tokyo — the kind of experience that stays with you long after you leave. The four of us spent around ¥68,000, including several rounds of drinks.
If you’re nearby, don’t hesitate to come here. You’ll be welcomed like family, and every bite will make you...
Read moreThe dinner we had at Furuya not only filled our bellies but also our souls. It is a family-run business and they were so welcoming, kind and funny. Although we don't speak any Japanese, they did their absolute best to communicate with us. I wish I could speak Japanese just to be able to chat with them.
Everything we ate was delicious, with a special shout-out to the sashimi plate (we'll remember the spicy pickled sashimi for years to come) and the garlic butter mushroom. It is very special to experience this level of hospitality in a big city such as Tokyo which made it an unforgettable...
Read moreMy husband and I came to this restaurant during a storm and had the best experience possible. The couple that run this restaurant are extremely friendly and though they cannot speak much English, they will treat you with the utmost respect, care and kindness.
The food here is prepared in front of you and is truly delicious. The atmosphere is small and cozy with sports playing on a small tv and fun conversations to be had.
I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and I hope the owners become world famous like they...
