I was walking by one day and I found this ゴゴカレー, that I have been wanting to go but is always busy. I went in and you have to order by the entrance door a kiosk for takeout and eating in. The menu is also in English, you select what you want, pay, give the receipt to the person behind the counter, have a seat and wait. In about less than 15 minutes I got my food, drink and a pitcher of water gets placed for you.
I had the chicken katsu regular with extra pork cutlet, that was a mistake I made thinking the food wasn't going to be enough but sure enough I over did it with the extra cutlet. Oh well I've been waiting for this place so whatever, the cutlets where nice and golden crispy and the meat was delicious not dry. The plate also came with some cabbage, and rice to which was a surprise because in the picture I didn't see the rice because it was underneath the cabbage.
Anyway everything was just blending in together so nicely it was delicious, the curry sauce was excellent not spicy and plentyful. Half way through and I was getting full quick even though it was regular the portion was excellent.
The picture is a bit deceiving but not in a bad way actually because you get a lot of food which I like because I'm getting more than my money's worth.
I highly recommend this place if you ever in Japan and happened to see one, just remember it's a popular place so expect a wait to sit especially during the 11am to 2pm hrs. But if you are in a rush or would rather do take out then by all means go for it. The staff was great and friendly I would visit this place more often. I like that it's a bit away from the crowds in kabukicho so there isn't too much...
Go! Go! Curry Shinjuku—back after three years, and I went for the Major Curry this time. The moment I saw the iconic yellow gorilla sign at the entrance, my stomach started rumbling, and the message on the window, “Everything is for the customer’s energy!!,” felt like a pep talk to eat well and power up. Finally, the long-awaited Major Curry arrived! Katsu, fried shrimp, sausage, egg, and plenty of crunchy cabbage all piled onto one plate—the visual impact is still strong, but honestly, the portion felt a bit smaller than before, which was a little disappointing. The price has climbed up like a gorilla too, which surprised my wallet, but the nostalgic taste brought an instant smile as soon as I took the first bite. I nervously asked if cabbage refills were still available, thinking maybe they’d stopped, but luckily it’s still possible, so I loaded up and enjoyed every last bit. In the end, I polished the plate clean! My belly was as full as a gorilla’s, making it hard to get up, but Go! Go! Curry still delivers both nostalgia and a full stomach. I’d better come back again before the price goes...
