Neat hidden bar at the bottom of the The Tokyo Toranomon EDITION hotel. Upon checking in to the hotel, we were highly encouraged to check out the bar at some point in the night. After actually finding the door to the bar (on 1F, outside to the right), we entered a dark lobby with a single person who greeted us. Not knowing what I was getting myself into, and entering in normal US street clothes, there was definitely hesitation on letting us in from the female hostess. She made it very clear she did not want to seat us. After standing there for ten minutes, we did enter when we informed the team that we were staying at the hotel and confirming with our room number.
The ambiance is not like anything we had seen in Tokyo, it was more like an upscale LA club. We definitely felt like we were among the bougie crowd. The menu trick was really unique, nothing I've seen before and I wish more places did stuff like that.
Shout out to Charles who took time to come over, introduce himself as the manager and proceed to have a really good conversation with us about where we were from and how our trip was going. We really felt like valued guests after this interaction after the hostess situation took place. Charles offered suggestions on where to visit in the future and invited us back next time we were in the area, a genuinely great interaction.
I appreciate the small snacks that were brought to the table (some popcorn, mixed nuts, etc). We ended up ordering two drinks and the truffle fries. The fries were good, nothing you wouldn't find at any US restaurant since truffle is all the rage these days. The drinks did leave a lot to be desired however. The 'Mickey Popcorn Sour' boasted a crazy (on paper) combination of caramel popcorn, cheese, egg white and Yakult, none of which we really tasted. The 'Unreal Midori' was also very one-note, just tasting like lavender.
Service was VERY slow, just like other reviews mention. It was difficult to flag anyone down to get our check and it was so incredibly loud that we had to yell to communicate.
If you're in the area and want an upscale and unique bar experience, give this place a look. It is on the expensive side and I feel the drinks should have been better for the price but we did have...

Read moreWe had a terrible experience and felt discriminated against at the Gold bar. Our table was booked for 10.30 pm and it was just my wife and me , we reached early at 9.30 and requested the hostess and her name was Blake to accommodate us. The bar was fairly empty at that time but she just refused to accommodate us. Her colleague who looked like a local girl wanted to help and we could see that she was showing her some options but she just would not agree and even mentioned to us that no one is allowed to to stand at the bar . We gave our number and said to call us if anything came earlier and we got a call after half an hour to come over . We were given our table and that time most of the tables were still empty. Later the bar started to fill up and we saw her taking a group of about 6 Europeans to the bar area and they were standing there having their drinks for at least 30 mins before they got their table. This was for the 1st time that we felt discriminated against because of our colour in Japan and strongly feel some action should be taken against...
