I’ve been twice. First time for lunch which was fantastic and I originally rated 5 stars. However, we went a second time for dinner where we were told that we had to order 2 alcoholic drinks as a minimum which has led me to edit the review.
I rarely drink and my wife is pregnant so this was an issue. We explained (in Japanese) and said we’re happy to order many non-alcoholic drinks but were told it must be alcohol. We were recommended to return for a lunch sitting instead.
We travelled 30 minutes specifically to eat dinner here and we were left very disappointed. After some time thinking it over, I decided to edit the original review to 2 stars.
The time we did eat here, the food and service were excellent. I understand the owner wants to make a certain amount per person, but mandating customers drink alcohol and having no non-alcoholic alternative isn’t cool. I would’ve happily paid the same for non-alcoholic cocktails but the place does not offer...
Read moreMy friend ordered a beer, I ordered a ginger ale. The waiter told us we have to leave because I did not order alcohol. Apparently they have this rule written clearly on insta that adults who don't/can't drink alcohol are not welcome. No reason explained to us for the rule, just basically "sorry, get out". I've lived in the neighborhood for 7 years and never seen anything like this, even cocktail bars are more accommodating for someone out with friends but doesn't drink or has 休肝日.
This is not a kyabakura this is a casual restaurant in a residential neighborhood. The owner should consider what kind of discrimination is implied by this rule: Muslims not welcome. Pregnant women not welcome. Adults with health issues or problems with addiction not welcome. It should also be handled better, inform people at the door of your extremely unusual rule rather than kicking people out after sitting down. I would expect better from a restaurant...
Read moreWe love Jolie. We stumbled upon it because we live close by. It feels like a cozy little oasis in our neighborhood. We love their homemade pastas - both the handkerchief pasta (which are like wide square sheets!) and their homemade spaghetti. Another favorite thing is their wine selection - if you ask for a glass of red/white, they will come explain 3 available bottles to you in detail for you to choose from. The glasses of wine have always been well selected and delicious!! Also, you have to order the tiramisu - it’s SO GOOD.
It seems like it’s run by just 2 guys, one cooking in the kitchen and one waiter. The waiter is always super cheerful and friendly. Only complaint is that sometimes food takes a while if they are busy due to just one person preparing all the food.
Overall, Jolie is a great place for a quiet cozy evening - great vibes for a date! We will definitely keep...
