Nice cosy local restaurant that serves traditional Japanese cuisine. The food was great for the price with friendly service. The hostess was polite and spoke a little bit of English. She quickly handed us an English menu as soon as she found out that we weren’t locals. They seem to have a lunch menu that rotates every day, with grilled fish sets that start from ¥1000. It also states that they freshly grill your fish after placing your order (and asks for your patience 😁). The restaurant was already full within 8 minutes of opening with mostly locals, so we were quite lucky to have gotten in first. We ordered a grilled salmon set and a grilled yellowtail fin set. They each came with 3 side dishes, rice, and miso soup. The fish was fresh, not overcooked, and had a nice crispy skin. The oozing fish oil added so much flavour to the rice. The miso soup was almost a dish on its own since it had ample radish and onions in large chunks. Lastly, the side dishes added nice variations of flavours to the set. All in all, it was a very fulfilling lunch with skillfully prepared quality ingredients at a pretty no-fuss price being so close to the ¥1000 mark. They also offer a ¥2500 dinner set but it will have to wait till our next Tokyo visit. 😢

I stumbled into Mitsuya on my first full day in Shinjuku Ni-chome, just beginning a couple-week stay to explore the nearby gayborhood and this ended up being my first proper sit-down meal since arriving. I was hoping for something traditional, comforting, and real, and wow, did Mitsuya deliver. The space is beautiful: warm wood, quiet energy, and that kind of grace that instantly slows your pace. The restaurant was busy without actually feeling too full. There was no English menu, but I pieced things together with my phone, and the staff were kind and patient. I asked what they recommended, and they suggested the special—so delicious, so satisfying, and exactly what I didn’t know I needed. I ended up staying longer than expected, sipping beer and sake, soaking in the atmosphere, and chatting with the owner, who took the photo attached. The staff were warm and attentive at every step, and the space felt calm and rooted, like it had been there forever. One of the best meals I had during my time in Japan. I'll definitely be back.

I searched google views and seems good. But, when we got there last night. The lady recommended the 28,000 set for my wife and me. I asked these are for two people and the lady said yes. I thought the 28,000 price and set was for two people eats. Then I ordered one drink. My wife wants the water. The lady seems didn’t know much English. She called the chef. The man came to our table and said everyone must be order a drink. Therefore we ordered two drinks. We got the first small dish. We thought this was a free appetizer. Then we got five small dishes. No rice and soup. The amount were small. When we got the bill. It was 8180. I asked how the amount was calculated. They showed me the first test dish was not free. It cost 600. I did not know this clearly. But the man said he explained to me at beginning. They over charged me 30. Finally we paid 8150. It’s not worth the money for the food provided. I don’t recommend...
