A great little restaurant/wine bar located next to JR Yūrakuchõ Station. For 1500 yen ($11), you can taste/drink 20-25 entry-level wines as much as you want for 30 min; each additional 30 min is 550 yen ($4). Some were pretty standard (Cali cab, Rhone grenache, German riesling, etc), but others were more off the beaten path - wine from Moldova, a pinot noir from China, etc). I couldn’t resist going three times during the span of a week - new wines appeared each time. For about $15 ALYCD for an hour, it’s a great, cost-efficient way to try some new and interesting wines.
As a bonus, the pasta was also surprisingly good - flavorful and cooked al dente; it definitely helped to soak up the wine. The pasta in the photo is the truffle pasta (1300Y) + L size (1050Y) + single cheese (200Y) - the price was 2550 yen ($18). Not the cheapest meal, but it was over a pound of pasta. Be warned though that the place is tiny (12 people), lacks ambiance, and is standing room only. It’s not like one of the bougie wine bars in Ebisu or Azabu with slick decor, a smooth sommelier, and customers opining about their favorite vintage of Cristal. It's more like a commuter wine bar that serves tasty pasta. The people working there aren’t wine experts, but they were really nice, down-to-earth, and friendly which was good enough for me.
Next time I'm in Japan, I hope to stop by the main...
Read morecame back for lunch, second time. it was even better! i think today the pasta was a bit more salted, it was perfect. we are so impressed and may return once more before we leave!
first experience: little express shop under the train, super cozy, both standing and sitting options. we walked by in the morning and smelled the bolognese, wanted to stop to try it! definitely did not disappoint, a good sized portion, with the option to downsize and upsize (M/L/XL/XXL!!, extra noodles/sauce), if hungry! it was very tasty, mix of beef/pork, perfectly al dente noodles and the sauce is enough even without additional sauce. if you’re looking to try a Japanese take on bolognese, definitely stop by. they provide all you can drink wine options with a cheese/meat board, saw many locals enjoying that. we hope to come back again,...
Read moreI was looking for a place to have our last meal before leaving Tokyo/Japan. I passed this place on my way to do some errands in the morning and it seemed like a cool concept. Plus also I love bolognese! Noodles and meat. It seemed like a safe bet so we decided to grab lunch here. I ordered the original bolognese and my partner got the tomato. Both were delicious!!! but I preferred the OG. I am Italian and love Italian food and this was very very good. Noodles fresh and cooked to perfection. The bolognese was complex and tasty. You can also drink from the wine section for 30 min. Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a unique and delicious...
