During our recent visit to Tokyo, we had the opportunity to dine at Ode, after reading Swinnerton's praises of chef Yusuke's culinary magic. The small flight of steps up to the restaurant's entrance is the only obstacle between one and this extremely approachable and welcoming restaurant. But we soon noticed that, behind this relaxed ambience, chef Yusuke and his team were all seriously working hard and precisely to ensure our dining pleasure - and they succeeded in all respects. From the wine recommendation to the first amuse, and the entrees, mains and dessert, Ode's cuisine is a supreme execution of ingenuity, sublime tastes and ingenious juxtapositions of textures. There were many memorable dishes that it was hard to choose a favorite. The spinach and uni risotto was revelatory. Even a simple thing as bread was elevated to a level seldom seen - you have to try the warm focacia bread with its crisp crust and fluffy but firm texture to understand. Chef Yusuke welcomed every guest sitting round the 3-sided counter and even served some dishes himself. We realised too late that we could request the dinner menu at lunch so we will return next time to do just that. Writing this review now (and reading again the personally-signed menu du jour) makes me miss those 3 hours of bliss at Ode - highly recommended! When we were leaving the restaurant, Chef Yusuke told us of his fondness for Thai food and for Hong Kong, and we confessed our love for Japan and to becoming fans of Ode. See you...
Read moreI visited Ode restaurant in Tokyo on Friday 18th Nov 2022 lunch time, to celebrate my birthday and my first day of arrival to Tokyo. I am sorry that I have to give this unfortunate negative review. The service at the restaurant by all the staff were really excellent, they answered all our questions professionally and even celebrated my birthday with a surprise! The food and drinks were above average (but not exceptional). However, we were really shocked by the extremely rude attitude of the owner/head chef Mr Yusuke Namai, who attempted to physically confront my friend face-to-face while I was asking him some questions before we left the restaurant. Without clarifying properly, Mr Yusuke Namai assumed that my friend who was smiling, was “laughing at him”, and he felt insulted, hence he confronted my friend as though he wanted to assault him physically. My friend was not laughing at Mr Yusuke Namai at all. This is extremely unacceptable and unbecoming. Even all his staff present were shocked and surprised. We have also provided this feedback to Michelin to review this restaurant’s service standards in view of the above negative experience with the...
Read moreWe absolutely loved our time at Ode. We went for a romantic couple lunch and everything was absolutely perfect. The staff is super nice and attentive at any dietary requirements. We have some food allergies and I am currently pregnant and they altered all courses to make sure we both could have all courses. Very much appreciated. Very welcoming and calming setting with a central table for 12/13 people and 2 small private rooms available for booking. Very creative food offer based around Japanese ingredients interpreted with a French European taste. The lunch menu we did was 9 courses and it took almost 3 hours. The course menu can be paired with alcohol or non alcoholic drinks. We had one of each and We can highlight recommend both of them. You can also add a cheese course to the menu if you wish. Great food (both from a aesthetic and taste POV). Highly recommended. The staff speaks Italian, english and Japanese and I am sure some other useful language. We will definitely go back. 🥰 The lunch menu is definitely a great...
