I wish I could rate this more than 5 stars, because the experience I had today went above and beyond in every aspect. I found Hiro through a google search for English speaking hair stylists in Tokyo. There were others that came up with more reviews, but they were also very mixed reviews. I made my decision to book an appt with Hiro because all of his reviews were positive and almost every one of them said they had been loyal customers of his for many years. I can definitely understand why. The booking experience was easy. Hiro was very quick to respond, and we were able to see him the same evening. My daughter has been wanting to cut her hair short for a long time, but since it would be a drastic change and she wasn’t sure if her hair type would work for the style she wanted, she has been too nervous to do it. Hiro took a lot of time with us, asking questions, looking through photos of her hair at various lengths and ultimately providing exactly the advice she needed to hear to ease her nerves. He explained why her hair would probably not look like the picture we provided, but he was also able to pull up a photo of something very similar that she really liked on a woman with similar hair texture. He asked questions along the way to make sure she was liking the progress and took his time cutting and styling her hair as well as sharing with her some tips that would help her style it herself at home. The look on my daughter’s face when she saw the final look brought tears to my eyes. She actually said she can’t remember ever being this happy with how she looked. That’s quite a statement for a 13 year old. As if that wasn’t enough, when he saw that it was raining when we were ready to leave and we hadn’t brought umbrellas, he insisted that we take his and told us there was no need to return it. I found Hiro under the search “English speaking hair salons in Tokyo” and I’m really glad I chose him vs going to a larger salon. My appointment was for a haircut and an Inkarami treatment and it was a wonderful experience!

Hiro was very good with communication via email before my trip and I appreciated it. He also confirmed my appointment when the day was approaching.

I’m a Japanese American who has atypical Asian hair…it’s unusually fine and pretty wavy, but Hiro worked well with it. His precision and attention to detail was top notch. I appreciated his personality - polite and not afraid of silence.

All in all, I would highly recommend Hiro. My first Japanese haircut experience was awesome and I plan to have him cut my hair my next visit to Tokyo! Thank you, Hiro!

11/27/24: Update Over my Fall Break, my spouse and I went back to Tokyo and I wanted her to get a haircut. I took her to Hiro and he did an amazing job!

IN ADDITION...as an American, I wanted to try different salons in Japan, so I went to a TikTok hyped salon in Tokyo that catered to foreign clients...It was so hyped...I was so excited to visit THAT salon (it shall remain nameless...but it has locations world-wide). After my service at that popular social media salon, I was DEVASTATED. My hair was AWFUL. I looked like an oompa loompa when my hair was wavy/curly, and I looked like I had a bowl cut when I blew it out. Lose-lose situation. Hiro saw me AFTER my haircut and so I worked up my courage to ask if he had any days available to "fix" my hair. He did and my hair looked 1000xs better! I had to get a keratin treatment in addition to my second haircut (because that first one was so bad). But he made my hair look super!

So. I've learned my lesson. When in Japan, GO TO HIRO to get my Japanese haircut experiences!!! Thank you, Hiro! I'll be back in 2025 and want to visit your...

I am ABSOLUTELY happy and VERY glad I found Hiro hair design! I had very long hair, to my waist, and I was considering going for a particular style, shorter and lightly layered with long side bangs.

I was VERY nervous since my hair was so long, and I feel like it takes my hair longer than average to grow.

I prepared with me about 20 different photos of the hairstyle I wanted, and Mr. Hiro let me come in for a consultation first, which many other salons don't have the option, and this in itself made me feel comfortable. But he took probably about an hour with me, to allow me to show him each and every single photo, explain what I wanted and didn't want, and he of course gave me his professional opinion on what the hairstyle was, asked me how I usually style my hair every day, and went over all the details of everything I wanted or needed to know.

I really appreciated all this from Mr. Hiro, so, I decided to JUST DO IT!! I felt comfortable that he knew what he was doing and knew what I wanted.

And I am just so happy with the result, even after a few days later when I've had a chance to "live in" the style, and see how my hair flows naturally. I do NOT regret it! Hiro was very kind the entire time, and we had a good conversation.

Also, another perk, not once did I feel like he was being too harsh with my hair (which is a concern I've had in the past from the country I'm from, but I think Japanese people are generally more careful).

I am seriously very happy with EVERYTHING, start to finish! I really mean it! I will 1000% be going to Hiro for anything for my hair from now on!~
