Part of the Mother's group, which has several fantastic restaurants in Kichijoji & other locations mainly on the Chuo line, PEP is a Spanish bar/bistro produced in the same stylish manner. 😎
The heart of the restaurant is the open kitchen which takes up almost 50% of the floor space. The small team of staff bustle around efficiently with great hospitality & good team work.👨🏻🍳🧑🏻🍳
Suitable for dates, anniversary dinners or small gatherings, the atmosphere is boisterous and lively, with everyone chatting away, enjoying the ambience and food. 🗣
The lunch menu is decent value, offering a salad, main & mini-dessert for between ¥1,200-1,500, with a choice of paella, fideua, ravioli or a 1-plate salad. 🥘🍝🥗
My chicken & green onion paella arrived at the table - it looked & smelled fantastic. The rice was cooked perfectly, the chicken was plump & succulent, the green onion adding a sweet touch, and complemented with the zest of lemon juice. 🤤
What made this dish so special was the "fumet" or fish stock that flavors the rice. The stock is made up of red sea bream, carrots, onions, laurel leaves, chili peppers, garlic, black pepper & tomato paste which has been simmered for 6 hours. 🐟🥕🌿🌶🧄🍅
The result is a paella deep with flavor & full-bodied umami. With hindsight I should have ordered a large size and paid an extra ¥200! 😅😋
Today's salad came with white onion dressing & dessert was a mini berry rare cheesecake with cream & walnuts. 🧀🍰🍓
While there are several Spanish restaurants in Kichijoji which are more established with a longer history, I would recommend PEP as the most accessible in terms of menu, service, value & of course quality of food! 👍🏼🤩

The tapas are ok-ish, we tried all of them. You need drinks to wash them down as the banquette is dry and crispy.
Paella fans should definitely try somewhere else. The Paella is more like a risotto, so it's moist. If you prefer a dry style - as it is normally the case - you might not be fully satisfied.
The drinks are ok. It's a cool place to hang out in the evening.
It's slightly hidden. Stairs are narrow and steep. Only those in the know will find and appreciate it, as long as they don't order...

お誕生日祝いできるお店を探していてLEMON8の投稿で発見したスペインバル WEBから事前予約✍️ 当日少し早くついてしまって電話してみたら、席ご用意できますということだったので、19時半に訪問。テーブルもカウンター席も満席でした!
