Pizzeria 8 Shimokitazawa — Restaurant in Tokyo

I don't typically write reviews but I often refer to them before deciding to go somewhere. With all the negative reviews we were resigned to not even giving it a try. On our last day in the neighborhood we were starving and didn't have the patience to find something else so we decided to try it since the place always seemed full and what we could see from the outside looked good. We liked the convenience of being able to order from our phone and the menu being in English. The food came out quick, didn't notice that the lunch set came with salad but it was solid and welcomed. We tried 3 out of the 4 styles in the lunch set. 4 cheese, Margherita and the corn one. They were all really good, we agreed that the cheese pizza was our favorite and the honey that came with it made it even better. Stale chips came out as a seemingly complimentary appetizer.

We snacked on them as we waited for our small plates and beers. We ordered the tomatoes and the garlicky cheese with bread. Tomatoes were common Roma variety, very mid, with a metallic Italian dressing over top. They served three extremely thin pieces of bread with a whopping serving of the soft cheese. Typically if you serve two people, you would include an even number of slices of bread.

When we finished the small plates, we received our bill with a 660 yen charge for the stale chips. We told the server we did not order these and that they were stale. They said it was a table charge…. But because of the miscommunication they removed the charge. This is the only reason I give 2 stars instead of 1.

Came here yesterday around 3pm for a late lunch. Both my mom and I were visiting from NYC and we were curious what Tokyo’s pizza taste like. We both enjoy our pizza as we always try every pizza around the world when we travel. Everything was good except for my male waiter with long hair. He was not friendly and seemed annoyed when I didn’t understand him. I politely asked if he can use a translator and he seems resistant. He told us it was our last order even though we just sat down and place our order in so why rush especially when other customers were walking in the same time we did.
