We stayed at the Prince Gallery for four days in November 2016. The hotel itself is marvelous ... a gem.
The same cannot be said of La Maison Koio, located in the adjacent historic house. We were impressed with the decor and French appeal, so we booked dinner there. I have sampled nouvelle cuisine (a chic pretext for skimpy portions at expensive prices) many times , but this restaurant took it to absurd levels. I ordered the only item on the menu claiming to include steak. What arrived was less than a one ounce serving (I could have swallowed the whole thing with one bite) served on a tablespoon-sized bed of whipped potato. The price tag? Somewhere near 70 bucks!
We're not talking kobe steak, which we know is precious. My wife and I are global travellers (80 countries and counting) and have eaten kobe steak before, and were prepared to pay the price for the experience. At La Maison Kioi, was a one ounce portion their idea of indeterminate steak their idea of fair value?

Read moreI recently visited this cafe with high expectations, but the experience was marred by an incredibly rude server. Upon arrival, the server merely pointed us toward a tiny corner without any guidance on whether we were to wait there or have our coffee. When we inquired about sitting by the window, the server coldly informed us that such seating required a reservation. His demeanor was both unwelcoming and out of place for this establishment.
Given my extensive travels in Japan, I can confidently say this was the worst service I’ve encountered. While I understand that reservations might be necessary for certain seating, the manner in which we were treated was unacceptable and did not align with the cafe’s usual reputation. After reading other reviews, it’s clear that not all patrons experience this level of service, which only adds to the frustration. I hope the management addresses these issues to ensure a more consistent and welcoming experience for...
Read moreThis is such a funky place—a Victorian-style manor in the middle of a pavilion surrounded by towers and shopping center. Going in, it feels like you’re in a totally different country except for the occasional lady wearing kimono while enjoying her tea set.
We had brunch on the outdoor terrace and holy moly the wind was strong and blowing everything away—perhaps the result of a wind tunnel caused by surrounding buildings, but the staff were nice enough to give us blankets to keep warm.
The food itself is not only refined, but delicious. If you want a place to take your Ralph Lauren-wearing friends or family, this is a...
