Me and my friend went to Sakura Tei and I have to say that this experience made us end the day with an extremely bitter aftertaste. The staff was unbelievably rude and I am not just talking about students who struggle with english. Even the women who managed the shift was so incredibly unfriendly.
At the entrance the staff straight up ignored us even though the restaurant was almost empty. We were so confused when a women in joggers who turned out to be a staff tried to make us follow to show us our table with nothing but a nodding head to make us notice her. No talking, no smiling just rolling eyes and and no directions and helping hands whatsoever even though we talked in Japanese. After we gave out our order she just rolled her eyes again and vanished for the next 30 minutes. I felt so unwelcomed. When the food got served by a different staff he just threw the plates on the table and looked really mad when we asked for extra Kimchi. Throughout the evening we met a few more staff members who were extremely rude, watching us and basically whispering to each other while looking at you. After an hour we got asked to leave the restaurant in the next 20 minutes in an really unfriendly way so we ordered our last round. Especially the manager who tried to make each of us pay 1000¥ more for leaving food on our tables was really twisted. It seems to be an rule in the restaurant that you pay extra for leaving food which I think is a really good thing for people to prevent wasting food but first of all you have to tell your costumers something like that beforehand. Second: we haven’t left any food on our tables -.- and third we found out that in such an case you only have to pay 500¥ more. Of course we said that we won’t pay for that and the women got so angry that she made the only nice staff in the whole restaurant deal with me and my friend even though she was really young and clearly not expirenced enough to deal with such a situation.
I never in my life had been treated like that poorly in a restaurant. People pay to eat at your place and to have a good time. This restaurant is rated as one of the top spots for tourist and is wel vistetd and even though the food is good the aftertaste is just bad. They make you feel like a burden rather than a guest which is so wrong and the shocking thing is that a lot of people I met and who went there said the same thing about this restaurant. Would not...
Read moreIf you plan an authentic and price worthy trip trough Tokyo you can defidefinitely spare this restaurant. Upon arrival there is little information given but the menu in english gives you all you can eat and al la carte option. Be aware though that there are rules which can not be bended. If one person orders all you can eat everyone needs to do so (same for all you can drink). Even I was there with a older person with stomach problems and I asked kindly the headwaiter (or owner?) still refused to let her order a single dish or let the rest of the table order all you can drink. At the end we ended up all ordering the one required drink. Since even though if people are sick or can't/don't want to drink you must consume. (There was no free water/tea offered as it is in all other restaurant that i visited.) Fair rules for a all you can eat restaurant you might think but the price is nothing close to fair. With 2500jny (dinner, lunch is 1500) this restaurant makes good profit by serving you low quality Japanese pancakes with mainly cabbage and other low key Ingredients. Don't expect more than can tuna and dry seafood. The waiters are surprisingly unfriendly for Japan (the worst during my trip.) One english speaking waitress was kind and tried to be understanding but the rest was rather unfriendly and just kept throwing orders on the table without a single word said. There are a few positive things that will upgrade this rather sad experience: There are plastic bags provided to safe your clothes from the hot and stinky air inside the restaurant. The experience to fry your own Japanese pancakes on the table can be amusing. My tip: you want all you can eat?-Go there for lunch! You want Japanese pancake?-Find another place. You are to tired to keep searching?-Order single portion dishes! The dishes bowls are bigger than the all you can eat bowls and will fill you up good at least till you find the next decent restaurant. There are tones of other restaurant in the area with better...
Read moreIt is definitely a dining experience worth trying! I will admit it is on the pricier side, I believe we paid roughly about 5800 yen for two adults. We decided to add the all you can drink soft drinks option along with AYCE okonomiyaki. The restaurant is very foreigner friendly. The hostess was very friendly and she spoke English well. We signed in and were seated about 15 minutes later. I wouldn't leave the area, wait nearby. They called a party three times, but the party was no where to be seen, so they moved on to the next party. Once the party returned, they were asked to wait and put their name down all over again.
Once we were seated, we were given an English menu and instructions on how to cook the meal. Luckily, the menu is pretty self explanatory. You can order four bowls at a time with one ingredient each. I would skip the options with noodles, they're not as flavorful as the other two options. The monjayaki was the messiest, but it was delicious and my personal favorite. The okonomiyaki was also very flavorful, especially with corn or beef as the one ingredient. The location gives you about a 90 minute time limit. The okonomiyaki does take a while to cook, about 20 minutes. Food wise, everything was really good and they had a lot of options to choose from. The location itself is pretty big, but it had close to no ventilation. I would recommend to call in advance to book a reservation, especially on a weekend night or do a walk in for lunch on a week day (it's definitely cheaper during lunch).
Once we had left the location, we noticed they over charged us by 1500 yen. We returned right away and at first they did not want to return the difference. They thought we ordered the AYCE and all you can drink alcohol bundle, but we ordered the soft drinks package. After the miscommunication was clarified they...
