Read moreThey are located near Harajuku, on a second floor. They had photos of their latte creations at the top of staircase, which is what they are famous for, and the very reason for our visit. They were all so cute, we were getting excited! The cafe looked and felt like a large living room with sofas and soft lights. They had wooden floor and walls, and big windows leading out to their balcony, bringing in lots of natural lights.
They had all the utensils and condiments on the table, and from the look of it, this place is NOT no-smoking... Sad, but there are still smoker-friendly places (reason for not giving 5 stars). I really don't like to smell the cigarette smoke while I am eating. Luckily, we didn't see any smoker in this place until when we were getting ready to leave.
The great thing about this cafe is that they have REAL food offerings! We ordered Handmade Hamburg Steak and Pork Ginger Dry Curry. Both of them came with a cup of soup, salad and rice. They were so much better than I expected. Super tasty and satisfying, we enjoyed them very much.
And of course, their special lattes. They had a pretty and simple explanation of "How To Latte-Art" on their menu. You pick which latte you want, get the image you want on the latte, show it to staff, wait...and voilà!!! We wanted the latte with our faces on it, so the staff took our photos on their phone and brought it to the latte artist of the day.
The staffs were all really nice, polite and friendly. It was a very relaxing atmosphere, we had a good lunch here. We even saw some teenage girls in school uniforms coming here for the expensive lattes... More reasons to push for NO-smoking environment. Hopefully they will change the smoking policy in the future. Another thing to note, they are CASH ONLY, so make sure to bring some cash. All in all, it was a lovely lunch, we enjoyed the food and latte. Read moreNormally you wouldn't find me in Harajuku because the area is saturated with fashionista teens and hipster wannabes, and unlike the rest of Tokyo, they're willing to trample over you to get a strawberry cream crepe, a kawaii stuffed animal, or a gashapon capsule toy. However, my husband and I had to get off the train at Harajuku Station to get to the Tokyo PRIDE festivities. The second floor cafe was en route past the ludicrously crowded Takeshita Street.
It looked quite nondescript from the outside next to the visual cacophony of the rest of Harajuku. Jamie W and I always have room for a latte, but what really motivated us was the multidimensional foam art they market here. I'm serious. There's an artist on the premises that produces 2-D and 3-D images that for some reason, tickled us. The place was bustling, but amazingly a table opened up for us and no hollaback girls bitched at us. We both ordered Vanilla Cafe Lattes which cost us ¥1,600 each or close to $11.
Sticker shock never really hit us because we got to choose the art featured on our cups. My husband went for the 3-D kitty since we kept seeing the virtual big cats on the corners of buildings in Shinjuku and Shibuya. Because I'm much more vain, I had him replicate a snapshot of me he took the day before. Pretty good, huh. The talented artist's name was George, and we just realized he was sitting at the counter next to the barista. Oh, I forgot to mention the lattes were quite tasty though I let mine go lukewarm since I couldn't get over my flattering portrait.
LATTES - 5 stars...a rich brew and such a handsome face on the foam (jk) AMBIANCE - 4 stars...a bit crowded but well managed SERVICE - 4 stars...server was perky TOTAL - 5 stars...need to give props to George, hopefully his other art...
