We had a fantastic dining experience here! We were exhausted and hungry after a long day of walking around the city and rushed to get here about 35 minutes before closing time. They had a note in the menu that last orders were accepted 30 minutes before closing time but both the chef (and owner) and the woman helping us were extremely welcoming. I ordered a special sushi set and my boyfriend ordered a rice bowl with fatty tuna, both were absolutely delicious. Even though the chef didn't speak much English - we also don't speak anyJapanese and unfortunately our pocket wifi had died so we didn't have our translation app - he communicated with us throughout the meal to share a little bit about the food, make sure we were enjoying it, and even tell us that he was the third-generation owner of this restaurant which was built by his grandfather in 1913. (I hope I got that right!) We enjoyed the food so much that he served us little extras along the way and we ended our meal full and happy. One thing he gave us that I had never tried before was "pickled tuna" or maybe it would be better to say marinated tuna. Anyway, it was raw tuna that had been soaked in soy sauce, mirin, and some other ingredients for a number of hours and was SO delicious. Given that it is a family restaurant, it had great ambience and the food was of the highest quality. 10/10 recommend and would go back in...

I was having a really long, tough day and decided on a whim to try Suehiro before going home. The restaurant is very cozy and intimate, a mom & pop run as the chef and waitress. They were incredibly warm and hospitable to me, and I felt welcome despite being very obviously a foreigner. There was only a local couple and myself inside. The menu is simple and straightforward.

I got the Special set for ¥1500, which apparently comes with stewed daikon & fish, AND the sushi set, AND miso soup (with clams!), AND green tea, AND fruit to finish the meal! (I did not know about any of the extras so it felt amazing to be fed more and more haha) The stewed daikon was the best I've ever had, the sushi was SO GOOD and generously portioned, and I actually got emotional from the delicious food and warm atmosphere after my tough day.

The staff continued to gently check that I was doing OK and were extremely friendly, and were very patient with my rough Japanglish. I highly, highly recommend Suehiro to anyone who is looking for a small local gem run by a loving family....

Some of the best sushi I have ever had as an American! This shop reminds me of that episode of How I Meant Your Mother with the burger place, like it's so tasty and hard to find that it might not be real! The set I got said that it came with 8 pieces, but it's really 8 different types of sushi and I actually got 12 or so. I think I paid maybe ¥2,400, which I think is a pretty good price for the quality. The owner is extremely friendly and has interesting stuff to say, but he likes his privacy so don't think this place is a movie set. I'm interested in when this place opened up, I will have to ask next time. Great late night spot to just grab...

I don't speak any Japanese and didn't want to be a hassle for anyone trying to serve me. I was able to use a translator app for some things but thankfully the chef and hostess spoke more English than I spoke Japanese. It was my first experience eating sushi in Japan, and the food/atmosphere/service combined made it a very memorable experience. The chef spoke with me and other customers, and gave the meal a very cozy feeling. I ordered an 8 piece special, it was delicious. I'd love to come back to Japan and eat here again one day.
