Sushi Kuriyakawa is located in the basement floor by a flower shop. The location on google maps is a bit off and will take you to the elementary school across the street. Luckily the staff here are friendly and can speak some English so I was able to find the restaurant. The sushi bar seats about 8 people so seats are limited.

I really enjoyed my experience here. One of the things I like about the omakase experience is interacting with the chef and watching him work. The chef is very friendly and made the dining experience fun. The lunch omakase is a good value at 7000 yen. My favorites of the meal were the tuna hand roll, nodogura,...
Read moreThis is my first omakase experience and it was spectacular. Looking at the previous photos, the dishes change which reflect the seasonality of the produce. The seafood all tasted very fresh and seasoned very well. My partner used to be a fine dining chef and he also praised the taste and quality of the food here (and also chef’s knife skills!) All the dishes were delicious and well balanced. Service was very attentive as there were only 6 other people in the restaurant (it’s a small place). The maître-d already knew our name when we arrived at the door. Atmosphere was very authentic and warm. Would love to come back when we return to Japan...

We do not frequent omakases in Japan so maybe this is the norm but felt like dining in a library. The chef stood at his station and kept looking down at something below waist level. At first I thought he was checking his phone or something but later it turned out to be notes from the kitchen written on a piece of paper. It was disengaging from the service but he probably couldn't just stare at us...
