Chef Nakano-san has a warm and affable personality and he goes the extra mile to try to make me feel comfortable in an intimate restaurant of 9 counter seats. I was the only non-local the night I visited. Chef clearly enjoys interacting with his guests and the atmosphere was extremely light-hearted. He has a lot of regulars and I was lucky to be able to get a seat.

Nakano-san is clearly a master of his craft, everything I had exceeded my expectations. The seafood was really fresh, the shari paired very well with the fish. The attention to detail showed through.

My dinner was delectable and comprises multiple courses spanning about 2.5 hours.

The entre crew was warm and welcoming, this has been an unforgettable experience for me. I was grateful that Nakano-san made the effort to explain everything I was served in English.

I would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for superb sushi in Tokyo. Aside from the totally excellent meal, I felt very welcome and appreciated as a visitor even though I was unable to communicate in...

I’m writing this review to respond to “Sam” and his recent 1-star review.

The quality of each dish was extraordinary. I thought the tuna was actually the least interesting part of the meal, since every omakase under the sun will serve you tuna. It was the simple dishes like tiger prawn where Chef Nakano’s craft really shines.

Sam complains that he was the only one who couldn’t speak Japanese. Sir, you are in Tokyo. You are not entitled to fluency in your own language as a guest. I actually found Nakano’s English to be quite good—he asked me many questions about my travel plans for Japan. I was quite humbled that he took the time to engage with me, since it excluded the seven other people at the bar.

The incredible effort and craft of the chefs is all you need to feel valued here. I would have been very happy to sit back and watch for two hours.

Is it awkward to eat where you can’t speak the language? Absolutely. But navigating this awkwardness over food is what makes dining abroad a...

Sushi Nakano offers a memorable dining experience that stands out even in a city renowned for exceptional sushi. The quality of the food is outstanding—each piece of fish is impeccably fresh, and you can taste the chef’s dedication in every bite. He works with patience and precision, ensuring that each piece is presented at its very best. The ika (squid) in particular was a highlight—phenomenally flavored and delicately prepared.

The restaurant’s entrance and interior design also set it apart from more traditional establishments. There’s a unique aesthetic to both the approach and the dining room, which adds an extra layer of character to the overall experience.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for an elevated and distinctive sushi...

The tuna was great, but the other dishes didn’t really match the quality I expected for the price. I was the only one at the table who couldn’t speak Japanese, and it honestly felt like I was completely ignored because of that. The chef was so much more engaged with the other guests—especially the Japanese ones—that I ended up feeling left out. He stopped explaining the dishes to me, even in English, and when he did, it was rushed and careless. Omakase is supposed to be a special and personal experience where every guest feels valued, but his attitude left a bad impression and made the whole thing feel awkward and unwelcoming. That said, the other staff were kind and helpful, which I did appreciate.
