The thing about Tokyo is they don't just do Japanese food well, they elevate everything else, too.
I've walked by this taco place a few times. They have a great location on the Meguro River promenade. Finally decided to give it a try.
The two guys cooking and serving are super friendly. They greet you with big smiles and seem genuinely happy that you've chosen their establishment.
The food is outstanding. The prices are fair. The Tacos rival anything you'll find in Tex Mex places or even big city places in the USA.
When you order, they pull pressed and raw tortillas from the fridge and cook them on the griddle. Then they top them with the perfect blend of flavors and textures. But the tortillas aren't just bland wrappers for the fillings, they have their own distinct flavor that's complimented, rather than overpowered, by the fillings. It will totally change your philosophical understanding of what constitutes a good street taco.
I tried most of their tacos, even ordering extra after I finished because I wanted to taste more. The standout options were the chicken and the shrimp tempura. But the others were great too.
I also got the swordfish ceviche from their Mexican tapas menu and I was blown away with the bold, lime-forward flavor. The swordfish is tender and chewy, the avocado is rich and creamy, the onions offer a refreshing crunch. It's all dressed in a strong salty and tangy citrus dressing that pairs perfectly with the crisp and salty fried tortillas.
I ordered draft beer because I'm afraid of tequila. But from the looks of the menu, I'd bet the margaritas are great. This is the kind of place that embraces their genre with deep conviction.
Definitely give this place a try. It...

Read moreTasty food, small portions, slow (and error-prone) service. Western-style oriented.
Food - Tasty with a stronger spice flavor. Gets closer than average to authentic Mexican. Portion sizes are quite small.
Drinks - great tequila selection, average beer selection, poor margarita selection.
Service - Slow. Very slow. Error-prone. Also, doesn’t really have a customer-centric view. You have to fight to get their attention and they just ooze a “whatever” vibe.
Example: no greeting and seemed to ignore us for a few minutes despite a half-empty restaurant. Also, staff took order from behind a very wide bar despite blasting music and didn’t bother confirming the order clearly, which led directly to two big mistakes in the order which came up later.
Price/Payment: higher prices. Also, payment is only cashless, which is kind...
