After pounding Ramen throughout our vacation, we were ready for an evening of Izikaya and Yakitori eats. Toritake delivered...
Toritake Service: . Our server brought us English menus which made the ordering easy. The kitchen kept the dishes coming to the table promptly and the beers fresh. You pay upstairs with the cashier.
Totitake cuisine: All the grilled skewers were delicious and cooked perfectly. The chicken, rice and egg bowls were tasty and perfect compliments with the skewers. All the vegetables were fresh and made me feel healthy af as I washed down all these great food with beers. This is a place that can get expensive quickly because the food is flavorful all around.
Totitake ambiance: We were greeted immediately upon entry, party of 5 and they walked us downstairs to be seated as this was the non-smoking section. We get to the basement, instructed to take off our shoes and sit on mats that were placed on the floor. The table only sat about a foot or so off the ground. A unique Japanese dining experience for foreigners? yes. Did I start cramping up because I'm inflexible af? yes. Overall was it fun sitting on the floor drinking and downing beers in Tokyo? Absolutely.
You'll find a lot of locals here which attests to the quality of izikaya Toritake has to offer. If in the area, it's definitely a place to check out but be sure to...
Read moreWhile exploring Shibuya for dinner, we stumbled upon this place with smoke pouring out 😂. Upon closer inspection, we realized it was a yakitori restaurant! Naturally, we decided to give it a shot 😎.
We lucked out by snagging the last available table because, by the time we finished our meal, there was a lengthy line outside. If you plan on dining here on a weekday, it's a good idea to arrive around 6 PM. Inside, it seemed like most of the patrons were locals, and we appeared to be the only tourists.
👍We ordered a few dishes, including scallion-grilled chicken, green pepper-wrapped meat, and fresh bean curd skin. They were all quite tasty; the meat was tender and juicy with every bite, and the seasoning, whether salty or saucy, was just right! Plus, the skewers were generously portioned!
😩Unfortunately, the fried chicken and chicken wings didn't live up to our expectations. The fried chicken had a crispy skin that felt like eating paper, tough and hard to chew. Even the chicken wings, recommended by the server, turned out to be quite tough and lacked juiciness.
💰 We spent 5040 Japanese yen for two people, and it was a...
Read moreThis is a fantastic yakitori restaurant, very popular with locals. We went during lunch time, it was almost full. The restaurant has two floors, with most tables available on the second floor. The kitchen is on the first floor, we could see them cooking the skewers as we walked in.
The menu has a variety of skewers, alongside other dishes like salad, rice dishes, soups, and hot pots. They serve many different types of drinks and beers as well. I found some of my favorite items like chicken liver and gizzard. We also got the chicken meatball, quail eggs, grilled shishito peppers, cucumbers, Eel cucumber bowl and fried tofu. The items were served quickly. All of them were cooked perfectly, had amazing taste. Eel cucumber was my favorite, with chicken liver and gizzard being close second.
The service was friendly. Multiple staff members were regularly attending the tables. They cleaned the dirty plates often. Checkout was an easy process. A note on the restrooms, that they were really really small, like the walls touch your shoulder when standing inside. Probably the only awkward thing we came across...
