Great ambience, beautiful restaurant. Had English menu. We had asked the staff for recommendations of their popular dishes but were returned with an “all good” reply. It was not helpful at all for foreigners like us. Obviously the staff did not know their menu well to be recommending dishes to represent the true Russian cuisine. So we had to rely on google for reviews.
The cabbage pie we ordered were not made fresh but rather heated up for serving hence the quality and texture were compromised.
The chicken Kiev we ordered were slightly undercooked and the chicken meat was slightly red (see last picture). We had feedback to the staff but he just nodded and walked away.
The pasta we ordered was on the tougher side but the sauce that was cooked with it was okay.
For the price range of this restaurant, higher standards are expected and there’s a lot more for this place to improve, in service and food quality. Will not recommend this place for food and service unless you just want to be sitting in a beautiful restaurant and paying for the ambience, enjoying the lunch discount of 20% and getting change in a handful of coins. 🤔 suggest to head to the restaurant opposite for an excellent meal...
Read moreI wanted to have a russian meal experience and I am glad I found this through local recommendations. As soon as you step inside the restaurant you are enveloped by the vibe. Live music is a nice touch. The draperies, decor, cutlery and tableware everything evokes Russian nostalgia. Coming to the food, I recommend trying the salmon rolled crepes, mushroom and cheese bake (appetiser), chicken cutlet (main) and borscht. Try the myriad vodka flavours. I ended my meal with a cup of tea. Our server Salem was very attentive, possibly gauging our first time there. It helps if you can read the Russian alphabet though there is an English menu available. If we return to Almaty we ll surely return to this...
Read moreFirst time trying Russian food and I’m glad I found this authentic Russian restaurant through the reviews!
The restaurant has an iconic vintage Russian vibe – really charming and unique.
The cold salad was super tasty – it had chicken fillet, pickled cucumber, and shredded crunchy potato pie. Very refreshing! For the main dish, I tried the famous Beef Stroganoff (because they said it’s a must-try when eating Russian food). The veal was so tender, cooked in a creamy mushroom sauce, and served on top of soft mashed potatoes. Creamy but not too heavy – just perfect! I paired it with a local semi-sweet wine called Kupecheskoe. Everything went so well together. Definitely...
