The place is lush. It's like ur in the middle of the forest. Beeeautiful - soooo close to nature.

The service was not that good. I sat outside just before the last 'floor'. & 1ce i was ready to order i had to wait for someone to come down again for me to signal them & my sugar was very low.

I was served by 2 ladies. One was tripping over one of the foreign guests, she would come, serve him & leave & not check in with me yet she was dealing with me originally. I hope the tip was worth it!!!

The other was better. She was attentive. She took her time. I told one of them to ensure they swap so there is always someone there in case of anything. They heeded for a while then got tired. Later came back seemed to work well for the other guests. They would even come & ask "are u okay"? Now THAT is service!!!

I think clients should have little 🔔s. It's tricky to call a server. Food for thought for restaurants.

Food was 2,000/- excluding drinks. Wouldn't say i was impressed. Not even sure the chops were cooked well but it had taken a while, covid times were catching up yeah.

Asked for extra rice i was told 400/-. I think my reaction said it all. Luckily got it for free. Maybe they portion food a little starch, veges & protein same amount (perhaps?!).

They need more options of fish, chicken, maybe they could add stir frys something.

Their prices can drop to 1,500/- I'm sure. Look into it

They could work on their shakes & smoothies, no variety. Thought they were serving cocktails coz apparently they are allowed but they were not and even that list seemed limited.

The Berry smash mocktail was okay. I've definitely had better.

Not sure if this is where i had a paper straw. If so, change to plastic. It kept tearing/unravelling

Like that they have hot rolls so u don't have to use the washing points which are everywhere.

I don't know.

For those not driving, make sure u leave by 1800hrs coz u have to treck to the stage or prepare to take a cab.

For those driving there's...

At the entrance, I was asked what I was doing at About Thyme. And racism or otherwise, now I know why? 🥲 Like I came to hunt elephants? And it's not that a reservation was needed. Just said I'm here to eat, and he was like, "oh!" Like what else do you serve here? Racism? 😅 And yes, loads of white people there. About Thyme this place got a 1 star. (Plus the food is Prohibitively priced.)

Edit: Revising this review. I was angry at first, but this is someone's business and I ought to be more objective. Yes, I did find it rather curious that I was stopped at the bar and asked what I wanted ... Not, "You need any help?" or something along those lines. The bar is at the entrance, and the bartender saw me walk in. Whilst walking past the counter, he called out and callously asked, "What do you want?" I wasn't inappropriately dressed; a bit casual in clean jeans and a tee. I thought the place was busy and a reservation was in order, but ... you can see from the photos.

The food arrived quick, but the steak recommended was nothing to write home about, and for KES 2700/- I expected more. The meal did not dare lean into any flavour profile, and instead tried for everyone's palate and ended up boring; just another stake. I also had a strawberry cheesecake, for KES 900. The cheesecake really influenced my review. It wasn't fresh; drowned in a jam and topped with strawberries.

The atmosphere was okay, but a lot of construction was happening...

I'll share photos of what I think are stratospheric priced meals. Nothing about these meals justifies the pricing. Not the flavour or the portions. Maybe we're paying for ambience ...

Almost forgot, I had an Old Fashion that I paid something close to KES1000... I forget. It's an Old Fashion ... it's ridiculously uncomplicated I could make one myself. Yet a weak and bland mix was all I got. I had two, normally, two is fine. But I had to leave for...

Hmmm... It was an "ok" experience. My husband's birthday. Service wasn't horrible, but they got the job done. Friends provided high reviews about culinary delivery & I'm a huge foodie so our expectations may have been set too high. We did not reserve, but we were seated right away. Friendly staff, but they lack attentive attention & etiquette such as immediately asking about beverage choice once seated. Instead they have to be flagged down every time to be assisted with anything. But they do come with positive attitudes. Waiters change so dont know who to tip in the end. Starter wings were excellent with a unique sweet & sour like sauce & fresh bread. This really got us excited for the main courses!! Food was fresh, but no wow factor for either meal. Meals were served in good time. Traditional coconut prawn & pilau dish was far from anything special at all. Several swahili spices were missing from the pilau & prawn sauce. The tails remained on the prawns causing a challenge to enjoy the meal. My husband's minced lamb & zucchini dish topped with cheesy finish was decent, but comparable to an attempt at homemade lasagne which didn't accent the lamb as we had imagined. I think the chef should read the menu descriptions thoroughly & try to recreate those descriptions. Culinary is an art, not just cooking to get the done. That being said, it was our 1st time, but based on reviews & referrals, there wasn't any "wow" Factor in service nor food delivery. Maybe it was just tonight. For the price & atmosphere I hope they will improve a bit. Most importantly on the food delivery. Wow us next time!...
