We came to check this restaurant in the late afternoon on Sunday. And it was full to a point that they sat us in the overflow area in their garden. (So we technically didn't see inside.)
Thus advice - make sure to call in first for a reservation, especially if you're planning to come during prime time.
We definitely enjoyed our visit. We ordered (see pictures):
Passion juice Classic margarita Tuna and Avocado Soyuae Gyoza (pan-fried dumplings with pork) Tuna & Salmon Platter For 2 Persons (Tuna, Salmon Sashimi & Tuna, Salmon Sushi & Rolls)
Here's my pros and cons:
PROS:
Definitely food. The sushi was so fresh and amazing that it was definitely worth the visit. My gf was kinda concerned about eating raw fish, but after she tried their salmon she changed her mind right away.
The service was very fast and the waiter did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable.
The final bill was quite reasonable. Around 8,000 KES + tip.
CONS:
The garden seating was not the best. They had these stray cats that were running all around us, begging for fish. This would definitely ruin your date if you were unlucky to get an outdoor seating. (This made me take away one star.)
The garden area is not the cleanest. Also if it's windy or if the weather is not sunny, it won't be the best experience. It doesn't even come close to what, say, Zen Garden...
Read moreI am deeply troubled to report a distressing experience at Furusato Restaurant in Nairobi, which unfortunately compromised my safety and trust in their service. During my meal, I was shocked to discover a stapler pin in my food. Such a hazardous oversight raises serious concerns about the restaurant's attention to customer safety and quality control.
Compounding this alarming discovery was the reaction (or lack thereof) from the management. Upon bringing this critical issue to the attention of the supervisor, I was met with a response that was nothing short of dismissive. The lack of a sincere apology and the supervisor's primary focus on merely removing the plate from my table without addressing the gravity of the situation was astonishing. This reaction not only displayed a concerning disregard for customer safety but also a significant failure in service standards.
This experience has left me questioning the integrity of the establishment's practices and their commitment to customer care. I am compelled to ask for accountability and expect Furusato Restaurant to address this serious lapse in safety and service.
I hope my experience serves as a wake-up call for Furusato Restaurant to implement stringent quality control measures and reevaluate their approach to customer service and safety. The wellbeing of your patrons should never be...
Read moreThere's currently two 5 star reviews of this place that really look like they were just created to post those ratings. I really can't see this place being a 5 star. I can't say I've had the same experiences as mentioned in lonleyplanet's review, as we were always a small group, and no one got sick, so I will only comment about the food. The sushi is, ok. Not great, but not terrible (which ranks it pretty high for sushi places in Nairobi). That said, the other dishes aren't quite right. The yukgaejang was full of stuff that shouldn't be in it: carrots, Kimche, and some kind of radish. No rice noodles! The meat was entirely the wrong cut of beef. Why were my thin flank slices replaced with chunks of rump roast? I don't mind trying different styles of the same dish, but it really seemed like extra stuff was just thrown in as filler. Anything else we tried was a similar story. The green tea was from the powder, but they didn't use nearly enough. Super weak. Basically, if you want ok sushi and don't want to pay for parking at Westgate, this place is alright. Just don't bother with the other dishes. Also it's not on Peponi, it's...
