If there was a negative star I would give it. My four friends an I visited this restaurant and experienced the worst case of discrimination I have ever seen in any Kenyan based restaurant. We walked in and selected a table where a family of 8 Asians had been dining at. We kept trying to signal a waitress to serve us for 20 minutes to no avail. So we decided to sit back and see what happens, one of the waitresses then saunters to our table with no care in the world holding three menus, mind you the table had not been cleared off of the previous diners dirty dishes. She slammed the menus on the table and asked what we'd like to have. This was almost 35 minutes since we walked in. We asked her to clear the table first, which she started doing. She picked up a few dishes and dirty napkins and left, and we sat patiently waiting for her to come back and finish clearing the table. After about ten minutes of waiting we were wondering where she'd gone, then we noticed her taking a Caucasian customer's order at another table. Seeing this, almost an hour after walking in we decided to leave the premises with no fuss. It was already 4 PM I was 6 months pregnant and very hungry, and by that time I was also appalled, angry and very shocked at the state of upscale restaurants in Kenya that don't see the local clientele as deserving of equally quality service. It is unfortunate that it doesn't even bother the owners of the restaurant that this kind of thing is happening within their premises and the fact that a fellow African has the guts to discriminate against a fellow African of the same skin color, country and origin. Writing this review I am disgusted and very sure that I will never come back here again as long as there is still breath...
Read moreAlthough the location of this Art Cafe is awful. It is in the middle of Westlands where the streets are garbage, the parking lot is nothing but collection of potholes, and the view is of a dirty tiny roundabout that gets alot of foottraffic from homeless children and people heading to and from nearby public transportation.
However, inside the cafe, it's nice and airy and open. The restaurant is above street level so although it looks as described, you are not much disturbed by the street life. The service is excellent. Again for Nairobi, this is a treat. However i feel it's fair to say most of the Art Cafe locations have good service. The Friday happy hour is popping. Lots of variety of people and happy hour drink specials with surprisingly good music.
The food is standard. It's not outstanding but it's not bad either. It's a solid meal for a fair enough value. I go for the service and happy hour. I like this location and Village Market location best of...
Read moreI was at Artcaffe Westgate Mall with a friend for breakfast. The location was very fashionable as was the interior design and decor. It's very youthful and busy. The waiters were smiling, welcoming and motivated. The huge glass plates I did not like. The portion of food was small. I did not like having my scrambled eggs served a top the baked beans. Too many small sauce, jam and butter etc bit portions on the plate. The plate is so large it takes up too much space on the table, so my friend and I could not sit close together. The glass plate makes one uncomfortable and afraid of breaking or toppling it when using your cutlery. I did not enjoy the way the food was served on huge glass artsy plates. Just use normal plates and give better portions....and don't serve eggs and beans in one hole...yuck!! Otherwise, the tea was fine, the ambience trendy, no music? It is very busy and popular....
