Ocean Basket Kenya — Restaurant in Nairobi

I have eaten at Ocean Basket over 30 times now. This place is definitely a hotspot for seafood.

I want to start off the review by saying that every dish comes with a complimentary starter of soft, fresh bread and if you don’t ask for it, for some reason they don’t give it to you. Always make sure that you say you would like the complimentary starter bread.

Pros of ocean basket: Delicious food ( I recommend their sushi, mussel soup, fried fish). I eat here everytime I am at westgate. Good portions. Great ambience - the restaurant brings out the chill, ocean vibe. Clean restaurant.

The 1 thing that does need improvement is the time the food takes to arrive. I think the staff need improvement as they are slow.

Besides this, this is an amazing restaurant and I would recommend their food to any fellow seafood lover in Nairobi! I would rate them 10 stars ⭐️ for their food!

I’m hoping they add Lobsters and oysters to their menu 😆

EDIT: their new coconut soup with fish and prawn is so rich and delicious! It is a must try! Always check and ask which offers they have, always ask them to make sure your complimentary starter bread comes. Otherwise they don’t bring it lol.

Additionally something that has made me upset, their creamy mussel soup was 450 then 550 now 700 ksh plus - same portion. Makes them seem money hungry. They should increase their portions if they want to jump...

We had an outstanding dining experience with a seafood dinner with our friends. They saw us at a gorgeous table outside on the patio . The temperature was just perfect. The staff are all so friendly and with a big smile on their face. We ordered several big platters to share and we felt the value was phenomenal and all the seafood was prepared to perfection. The calamari strips were all tasty with good texture and the shrimps your grilled to perfection, the fish were succulent and juicy we had them grilled instead of fried and even the french fries were fried to Absolute crispy profession and they were very tasty. All of the dipping sauces including the garlic, herbs and tartar sauce for phenomenal but that lemon butter that comes in the little dipping Bowl was just the absolute best especially mixed with some lemon and some garlic. We had an absolutely phenomenal time and this is another easy five...

EDIT: I had a disappointing experience at Ocean Basket initially, which I shared in my previous review. However, I want to give credit where it’s due—the team reached out to me afterward and sincerely apologised. They genuinely wanted to know what went wrong and how they could improve.

I spoke with the manager, Collins, who was absolutely amazing—very respectful, understanding, and professional. He took the time to listen, acknowledged my feedback, and even invited me to come back and give them another chance, as he didn’t feel my experience reflected what Ocean Basket stands for.
