My husband and I ordered delivery from open house yesterday, Feb.25th. We called the restaurant and were able to request delivery to our home in RUIRU from Nairobi city! It took the driver about 45 mins for delivery and about an 1hr and 15mins before food was ready, they were kind enough to call us when it was prepared. Delivery was obviously pricey due to distance but was less than 1k!! We ordered the special ginger wings which were okay, the other reviews kind of hype up the wings a little bit. The butter chicken we ordered for our 9 year old was absolutely delicious!! He absolutely loved it and he's the pickiest eater!!! My husband got the prawns masala which was also excellent. Lastly I had the chicken tikka masala which also completely blew us away. The prawns and chicken tikka masala were seasoned perfectly, we asked for them to make them spicy and they did not disappoint. The naan bread (1 garlic, 2 butter) were soft and airy, and soaked up the stews wonderfully. We also ordered the tandoori roti, which was okay...it was a bit dry but still good. I must warn others that VAT is not 🚫 included in menu pricing so be aware!!! Overall, I highly recommend Open house and let me tell you, they don't cheat you out of food when you order...we had leftovers for...
Read moreOpen house used to be the standard of authentic Indian food. To be specific the naan shaak and starters was it. It was known for setting the bar for other Indian restaurants with their quick service, delicious food and lovely ambience.
All of that is gone.
I visited the place with the expectation of getting the best. The food took 40+ mins to be brought out, after being asked for it at least twice. When our Kofta was brought, it had 4 kofta balls. And they had a very pungent fishy smell. I am a pure vegetarian, and had informed the waiters accordingly prior to ordering anything. So we returned the 2 Kofta balls in the bowl of curry and they replaced our plates that had 2 Kofta balls. When the curry came back, they only had the. Same 2 Fishy smelling Kofta balls in the curry. What was that? We had to return everything and the manager came and apologized and insisted we have a meal there. Then we got some chili paneer and naan.
They have not maintained the taste of the food. Which is a shame.
P.s The naans and masala papad was good. The new place has new furniture which looks lovely.
However, I cannot go back there again and cannot recommend Open...
Read moreGood food, good service, beautiful restaurant. Lots of Vegetarian and Vegan options. Went particularly for malai kofta, methi naan, and they didn't disappoint. Had masala popdom, paneer, kushta and mushrooms for starts, egg curry, malai kofta, methi makaai shaak with an array of naans and rotis for mains. I'm sure I've missed a couple of dishes but it was all really delicious.
The down side is that it was extremely noisy (some could call it buzzing), there were no drinks without sugar (in Nairobi juicing fresh orange, watermelon, etc isn't a mission) and they don't have their own WC.
We did not manage to get pictures this time round as we were short for time and had to...
