Location
Nairobi Street Kitchen is in a great location. Easy access, very near the matatu stage and very many other amenities. If you live within the area or even in the CBD, it is a place you can walk to. It is truly accessible to all and not just those with personal vehicles. A big star for location.
Concept
The concept of having different eateries in one space plus different events on different nights is a great idea. The ambience is very artistic with bright colours, lots of different textures, indoor plants and even a few quarky bits here and there.
I got inspiration from the washrooms. Featuring a well known African historical figure as the centre piece behind the toilet doors is brilliant.
This is a space that you can explore just for the design aspect. Another star here.
Menu/ Pricing
I expected the food to be just as innovate, but it wasn't. The menu reads just like any other menu in these our Nairobi streets.
The prices are high for the average Kenyan, but that is Westlands with its ridiculous prices and average everything.
Next door Kiambu County is now giving you the same experience food wise at the fraction of the cost. No star here.
Experience
Went on a Saturday late afternoon. There were barely people. Being my second time here, I have observed that daytime barely pulls in a crowd.
Ordered from two different eateries. Got a burger with fries and a ginger, rhubarb lemonade. The burger was good and so we're the fries. Good portions as well. The lemonade was too sugary.
Also ordered a soup and spring rolls from the Thai place. The soup was quite chilly with barely any chicken and the spring rolls were a rip off. Very tiny for the price. This particular meal took forever to get to the table. I did not enjoy this particular order.
I spent slightly over KES 3000.
A good budget for a solo traveller would be around this budget, just make better food choices.
If alcohol is your thing, then your budget goes up significantly.
The service was good.
Another star for the experience. It was not a bad experience.
Events
There was a rock event on that Saturday and of course the salsa night I think on Thursdays.
This is definitely a great spot for events. Problem is, most of them are at night and are ticketed events.
Wish they had daytime events though😔.
Overall, a good and interesting experience.
I would recommend this place. Great for solo travellers, families, couples, group events......

Read moreMet friends for lunch today and was excited to try some bits that I'd read online from their menu's. We sat in the communal area so we could all order something different and share. Service took a while initially and we tried to order one by one. However, each time we tried to order, we were told that that particular establishment was closed/unable to cook. It got to the point where we had to ask the server what actually was open. Only 3 places were serving food. After ordering different dishes, we waited over 90 minutes for ALMOST all of our food to arrive. While the food was very yummy, it was not hot but we believe this may have been down to the server not checking as they seemed to just be stood chatting with the other servers. After all but one of our meals came, we asked where the final meal was. The server said that place wasn't open and so the meal wasn't available. This was 90 minutes after arriving! And the server hadn't told us/ checked in with us or asked us what other meal our friend would have liked! Then we had to ask for a new menu, re order and wait. Quickly we ordered some coffee and waited again. Drinks were faster than our meal but one of them was still wrong. We were actually at Nairobi Street kitchen for over 3 hours when we had only met for lunch 😢 The place as a whole was lovely and the shops were gorgeous. We plan to visit again at some point and hope that our visit today was just a blip and that we...
