a cozy restaurant, and that’s it. cuz their food and service deserve a -100 star review if google maps would actually allow that. we ordered carbonara and 4 cheese pizza: 1. carbonara i really don’t want to compare, but it was EXACTLY like the rushed dish mum makes at home for the kids. the pasta was overcooked and mushy, the sauce was thin and bland, with a few pieces of cheap ham and a random type of mushroom (it was kind of like oyster mushroom, but i’m not sure, since the taste was so bland and out of place overall. i would’ve understood if they used baby bella, for example), garlic or onion, A LOT OF SPRING ONIONS, and cream. the garlic and onion smell was overwhelming. they even added heaps of spring onions, as if the garlic and onion in the pasta weren't enough to kill you already. 2. 4 cheese pizza their definition of “4 cheese” was just a meager amount of cheese that seemed like leftovers from someone’s kitchen. when we order a 4 cheese pizza, we expect a cheesy, gooey, stringy pizza. but no. it was more like a Vietnamese grilled rice paper with a bit of cheese on top. i call it rice paper because the pizza base was really thin; or rather, it was like naan bread. it was too thin to keep the pizza warm. after just 1-2 slices, the whole thing was hard enough to throw at someone. we didn’t even eat the crust because it was too tough. and i know one reason for “that hard pizza” comes from… THE WORST THING here: THE SERVICE. 1. they didn’t even know what their food LOOKED LIKE. they (two people, presumably a server and a manager) brought our 4 cheese pizza to our table and asked what we had ordered. when i said 4 cheese, they looked confused and just placed it on our table. then, after 1-2 minutes, they felt something was off and asked to take it back, going to two other tables on the same floor to see if anyone had ordered it… AND THEN, they finally brought it back to us. all that time under the air conditioning was enough to freeze my pizza, not just dry it out. and after all that, NOT A SINGLE PERSON APOLOGISED TO US 🙂 2. they didn’t even come by to take our order proactively; i had to call them over twice. after we ordered, everything became a chaotic mess like in point 1. 3. they didn’t even bring us plates or cutlery (we had to get it ourselves), and there was no sauce even though they had brought the food. 4. it wasn’t until we finished the pasta and reminded them twice that our drinks finally arrived (even though it was just coke). not to mention, no one even came to check on us when we first walked in. we had to take the initiative for everything or simply walk out (i wish i had done that). my friend had been here once before and had a great experience, which is why the place was pretty busy, and he brought me here today. but after today, i’m not sure he’ll come back again. you might say the restaurant was too crowded, making my experience terrible. but keep a few things in mind: THE SERVICE and the portion sizing for each dish don’t change. if you can’t handle a busy restaurant, simply reduce the number of customers rather than trying to chase your customers away.

TLDR: Food had very interesting flavor. Service gave me a headche. Fish with white wine sauce came out tasted faintly like tom yum and Black spaghetti with salmon tasted like stir fried seaweed noodles with very small cubes of salmon. Both were not what we expected but tasted okay. Salad came in big portion and was the okayest of all. We ordered pear fruit with ice cream, chocolate sauce and cream for dessert but it came with no pear at all, just a cup full of vanilla ice cream that tasted store bought. After 2-3 attempts at asking the waiters, they said they don’t have pears today (but they said it is available when I was gonna order it) and that’s it. I ask another waiter to make sure I got the right dish, he said he’d check with the kitchen, disappeared for 20 mins and never talked back. I reached for the first waiter again and he said the same thing, that they don’t have pears, couldn’t explain why he didn’t tell me at first, and said it was his first time taking orders(?) When I was gonna pay, the lady at the reception explained that 1 ice cream scoop is 25,000 kip so 3 scoops that I’ve received would be 75,000 regardless of whether I got the pears or not. After some fight and more waiting, they finally removed ice cream from the list. If they didn’t, I would’ve given 1 star instead. Everyone in here took so long to address the problem. Real headche. The price in the menu did not include 10% tax.

Le Vendome, authentic-looking French restaurant tucked away down a side street. I'm giving it a generous 1 star because the food arrived hot. The first meal I've eaten in Laos that wasn't served at room temperature. Maybe the (Lao) senior waiter was educated at The Sorbonne, where it's instilled in students to be as surly as possible on hearing an English accent? The waiter only spoke four words to me throughout the entire meal. No "Hello, how are you, what would you like, how's your meal" etc. When ordering my meal: "Fries or roast potatoes?" was all I got- no smile. The waiter brought the meal to the table and casually slid the plate almost infront of me, WITHOUT LOOKING at me or the table! I asked for the duck to be cooked Medium. It was served just about Blue. It then became a game of who would speak first. He's a tough competitor though. Without speaking, I gave the 'scribble hand gesture' to request the bill. The wallet was also casually slid just about within reach on my table. I placed bank notes in the wallet, got up to leave without looking at the waiter and not saying "Thank you". I felt he hadn't earned the courtesy. Needless to say the waiter didn't thank me for my visit or wished me a pleasant evening. Don't waste your money at Le Vendome. The staff clearly couldn't care less whether you dine there or not.

Place is okay and food is actually very good. But the service was very mid. Not even a hello when we got in, they just asked “outside or inside?”. A waiter came to take our order which was 2 mains and 2 smoothies. A waiter comes with my (huge) salad a few minutes later, with no drinks. The salad was huge and is probably meant to be eaten by 2 people since they brought 2 plates with it. But this isn’t specified in the menu. While i’m waiting for my partner’s dish to arrive so we can eat together, we were wondering where our drinks were. A different waiter comes to us and tells us that they don’t have the smoothies (???). We ask for the menu so we can take other drinks. 20 min later, the main dish of my partner arrives and still no one came to take the new order for our drink. Thus, we have our food but no drinks. We have to call one waiter to take our order and they finally bring us our drinks. Food was really good even though there weren’t a lot of goat cheese in the salad i paid 95000 kip, and my partner had 4 pieces of shrimp in his shrimp pasta… Once we finished, we asked for the menu again cause we’d like to order some desserts. (around 15 desserts on the menu). They come back to take the order and i ask for a dessert and he tells me it’s not available and only 3 desserts out of the menu are available…. 3 desserts out of 15… didn’t leave much choice and i eventually didn’t take any. My partner orders an ice cream dessert with banana, pear, pineapple, coconut… They bring the dessert and there’s chocolate chip ice cream inside… So overall i’d say a medium experience. Such a pity that the service isn’t that great cause the food is actually really good (when understood what...

I believe that this quaint little Laos restaurant, tucked away in a dark corner by a dark alleyway, is very much well worth the visit. As a tourist, my main concerns when it comes to getting food are 1) whether is it bang for bucks 2) is the place safe to eat.

My group gave this restaurant a shot and we walked away feeling very full and satisfied. While the food may not be the best there is to offer, for the quantity and price offered it is really too good to pass up on. To give an example: other notable nearby restaurant may charge slightly over 10 bucks for a pizza, but over here it is about 6-7 dollars.

I got the blue cheese steak for slightly less than 10 bucks (another steal!). The steak is decent, and the thick crispy French fries dipped in the melted blue cheese is heavenly. On the sides, I got a banana smoothie as well as a pizza. For dessert, we got a Soufflé. The banana smoothie was great, pizza was decent and the soufflé was comically large in quantity especially for the price.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and the ambience was on point. We were seated on the second floor as the first floor was packed. We were very comfortable eating on the second floor of the restaurant, where we had the entire place to ourselves.

All in all, this restaurant is a 4.5 stars considering the value it brings to tourists. While the food may not be the best, the price and quantity as well as the ambience more than...
