I never post negative reviews on restaurants, but our visit to MeatChef was very disappointing. I don't know if we caught them on a bad day, but our experience did not live up to our expectations, or the prices. We were seated inside, but it was unusually hot in there, the AC must have been broken or something. We kindly asked for a table outside. We were seated outside and waited 20 minutes for the waitress to come back to take our order. It started pouring down raining so we had to ask to be seated inside again, and another waiter (who was a lot friendlier) seated us inside again. It was a whole 55 minutes from seating until food was delivered. Due to the confusion of the seating, we could forgive the wait, but our waitress rarely came to check on us or deliver our drinks. Unfortunately, my partners steak was completely raw (he ordered medium rare ribeye), which wouldn't have been a problem in and of itself, but when we told the waitress she had a bit of an attitude and claimed it was medium rare. She told the other friendlier waiter, and he gracefully took the steak back to be cooked more, this time with the right temperature. Unfortunately, my steak was completely raw on one side, but I didn't notice until half of it was eaten, so I didn't complain other than politely let them know at the end of the meal. The rest of the food was alright, with the exception of the fries with truffle mayo, which were amazing. Overall, we were disappointed by our first dining experience in Riga. My and my girlfriend arrived there with no expectations, in the reviews were 4,5 stars, the place seemed nice so we decided to spend our Thursday evening there. But as soon as we entered we couldn't find a person whom to ask if there were any table available, instead we received some judgemental looks from the staff. Overall the atmosphere was nice, in ca 10 minutes came a waitress, seated us, gave the menus after that we had to wait another 30 minutes to make the order. By seeing the menu the expectations got high, not only because of the price but also the description of dishes was extensive. BUT - as soon as food arrived it got a bit disappointing. We both ordered medium done steak - I received rare and my girlfriend well done. Instead of forest mushrooms in the sauce there were cheap champignons. The potatoes which were supposed to be included in my dish were missing, so I politely asked waitress about it. The rude and unprofessional behaviour of the waitress made our experience even worse. Instead of answering politely we received "Maybe because she has just two hands!" , referring to her colleague, in a rude tone. This was enough to ruin the night! At the same time for the table next to us - full of foreigner men, waitress was running around like chick. Unprofessional and disappointing. Seems that only people in suits and high heels are respected well...

Yesterday we visited the meat chef after reading the reviews written by others. We had high expectations. We were really hungry so we ate quickly, but the food wasn't great to be honest. Would not go here a second time.

Generally all of the food was lacking any taste.

And the main course which we had high hopes was the biggest disappointment. We had the filet from Argentina and I ordered medium rare, got medium. My other half ordered medium and got well done. At least this is what we think happened because the steaks were maybe given to the wrong person since I first got the more cooked one and I ordered the more rare one. We switched the portions right after we noticed this. But not only was the beef not cooked the right amount, there was a lack of taste and it was like chewing gum, not tender at all. Big disappointment. I cook better steaks at home.

The service was good but the food is the main thing of course in a restaurant and after spending 135€ here, we were left with a not so...

I had supper here tonight with my wife. We each had a salad to start, steak and sides, with a few drinks. My wife had their Carmalised Goat Cheese salad - delicious. I had the Tiger Prawn Salad - pretty tasty but visually a little bland. As for our main course, both of our steaks were overall tasty, but both undercooked. We had ordered medium rare, but came out very rare. My wife had to return her Black Angus Ribeye to be re-fired. It still came back barely medium rare - she was able to eat most of it. I ate what I could of mine (outer area of my Tenderloin de Burgo) but was again very rare in the center. We paid just over a 100 Euro for the meal, and no way would I compare it to the standard of a North American Steakhouse such as the Keg. I expect differences in food, but cooking meat is pretty universal. It was a nice place but for the price we paid, I would expect Meatchef to nail their cooks on their steaks.

I had supper here tonight with my wife. We each had a salad to start, steak and sides, with a few drinks. My wife had their Carmalised Goat Cheese salad - delicious.
