RIIS — Restaurant in Riga

A small Japanese-style fast-food spot with a very stylish, minimalist interior. The menu isn’t large, but it’s enough to make you pause and think about your order on your first visit.

I got a mix of wontons (shrimp, shrimp & pork, shrimp & chicken) with broth. I think getting the broth is a must—it elevates the flavor profile significantly. Midway through the meal, I added some chili paste and realized I should have done it earlier. It was an explosion of flavors. The umami was so rich and incredible.

To top it off, the mochi got me. It was heart-shaped (probably for Valentine's Day), and the taste was pure bliss. Coconut and raspberry—an absolutely perfect combination.

The place is claustrophobically small, the whole menu doesn’t even take a full page and the kitchen is located in the dining area so you can’t escape the smell. And that’s why this place is so uniquely perfect.

It’s not your mundane experience when you order something and it magically appears on your table. You’ll see all stages of cooking yourself and as the place is so tiny, you’ll feel involved in the process. The menu is… well, no need to spend 20 minutes reading it. It has only one dish. Choose a filling and you’re set. You can add a few extra bits if you want, “buljons” is must have if you ask me. Tableware is so lovely you’ll be contemplating taking it with you.

We had a wonderful experience at RIIS Wonton in Riga! We tried the wonton bowl with a variety of fillings, all served in a rich and warming chicken broth. Everything was incredibly delicious, and you could really tell the wontons were made with care. The shrimp wontons stood out the most – absolutely unforgettable! The broth was comforting, slightly fatty, and full of deep flavor.

The service was also very friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even more enjoyable. We also tried two flavors of mochi for dessert, and they were a perfect sweet ending to the meal – truly impressive.
