While the Liechtenstein tourist office pointed us to this place, and it was open/operating on a date that some other local restaurants were closed for the week, we felt the food and service here were very average compared to local competition we visited. We arrived mid-afternoon, they were open but not only did no one greet us, we had to open the kitchen door to announce our arrival after saying “Hello” very loudly multiple times did not cause anyone to appear. There was one customer eating/drinking who alerted us not to leave, just shout into the kitchen. Indeed that worked. The server was pleasant enough. We had one beer, and the Käsespätzle Alpkäse (spaetzle with cheese and crispy onions on top — bit similar to macaroni and cheese — we liked it) and the Asian-like Fisch-Ball Suppe (fish ball soup — not bad). Nothing special but good and filled our stomachs. The view from the deck here is nice, and it was centrally located. It is a bit plain decor, not cute or homey, but utilitarian and clean. If I could give 3.5 stars I would. Admittedly we were a bit down on this place as in our view, it did not seem very “Liechtenstein” to us, yet the Kasespatzle is indeed local we hear. Later we found other places that felt more interesting / different / local to us. Possibly this place is aiming to serve some of the many tourist visitors that visit from Asia, no shame in that. Our bill was about $56 US for one beer, one soup, and the Käsespätzle Alpkäse. In summary, this place is not bad, nice view, pricey by non-local standards, well located. But not a destination...

SLOW SERVICE and BAD SERVICE The attitude or manners of their staff/employee members are extremely rude, they couldn’t attend our tables even if we called for service. Instead, they’d attend the tables next to us even if they came before us. Completely ignoring us.
ATTITUDE? We came in a group, I went with my family while the other members sat differently, they treated us differently as we are tourists.
WAIT TIME After 30+ minutes they finally came to serve us with papers (for us to write our orders) before waiting another 30-45 minutes finally giving us a confirmation about our order that they “just read the order and are about to cook our food.” After another 20 minutes is when they finally messed up our orders, by giving us the wrong food for the wrong table. Insisting us that this is our order, with a rude manner.
Although I have to agree that the place and atmosphere is very nice and that they’ve included toilets and free water. The food is also great even if they messed it up. I still recommend this place for all tourists or local communities and hope everyone doesn’t have...
Read moreWe were staying in Zurich, but drove to Liechtenstein on New Years Day just to say we visited this country. They had a small ice rink with a few stores open. We bought way too much, but the store owner suggested Engel. Tanavat was really nice. He recommended his mom's red curry and the schnitzel. We wanted both, but don't have huge appetites. He was more than happy to make smaller amounts so we could have both. The schnitzel was on point and tasted like a traditional Liechtenstein dish. Tanavat undersold his mom's red curry! It was delicious, a good level of spice too, spicy but not overwhelming. It's a good thing we didn't get full orders. We definitely would have eaten full orders, then would have been super full. We had just enough room to share a dessert. Eispalatschinken - was a light crepe with ice cream in it. Great way to finish the meal. Unfortunately, we will likely not be back to Liechtenstein, but if we are close by, we would...
