My partner and i were looking to try a new Izakaya place one evening. We remembered that we had yet to try Fumi, so we decided to just show up and try our luck. What initially caught our attention was the fact that they served highballs (something my partner and i were particularly in the mood for). When we were ready to order, we were informed that none of their whiskys had arrived (so no highballs that night). We tried ordering the main dishes but they informed us that they were out of the tonkotsu and will be replacing it with chicken cutlets instead… My girlfriend casually asked if there would be a change in the price (since we noticed that the dishes were at a higher price range). But there was none. We decided to settle on having beers and trying the Yakitori platter, just to see how the food was. Overall the food was mediocre. Below is a photo of the “salad” that is served with the Yakitori platter. Overall my first impression of this place was disappointing. Perhaps it was just the timing, but we noticed that they were not well stocked. The staff is friendly, but needs more coordination and training. The food was lackluster for the price range. I guess you could my summarize my experience like this salad, underwhelming…

I visited Fumi Japanese restaurant for dinner last night and unfortunately left quite disappointed mainly due to the portion sizes. I ordered the Seafood Yaki Udon, and what arrived was closer to a kids’ meal than a main dish. The menu photo showed two whole prawns, but what I received was just one prawn, cut into several pieces. It felt misleading and underwhelming. Next, I had the Agedashi Tofu. This was even more disappointing.. Only two tofu pieces were used, cut in half and served as four. I’ve been to many Japanese restaurants, and I’ve never been served agedashi tofu this way. It felt like the dish had been skimped on, and honestly, it came off as a bit ridiculous. The Tori Karaage portion was decent, and I have no complaints there. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance, and the service by the waitress was friendly and attentive. The food overall tasted good, but it’s hard to enjoy it fully when the portions feel so insubstantial especially considering the prices. I hope management considers adjusting the portion sizes to reflect what’s shown on the menu and to meet typical expectations for Japanese cuisine.

I tried several dishes at this Japanese restaurant, including the salmon mentai roll, curry udon, kinoko itame, smoked duck ramen, omurice curry set, chicken teriyaki ramen set, and chawanmushi. Overall, the food was pretty good—flavorful and satisfying, especially the mentai roll and curry dishes. However, the chawanmushi was a bit bland and could use more seasoning. The biggest downside was the waiting time, which ranged from 40 minutes to an hour. Definitely something they should improve to enhance the dining experience. If you're patient, it's worth a visit for the variety and taste!
