Decided to try Union Tea House at Damai with friends. I ordered their Toasted Roti Kahwin, 2 soft boiled eggs, and Kopi Tarik to try.
My toast arrived first, because i wanted to pair it with the eggs. I remember i waited for quite a while and unfortunately, my soft boiled eggs were a disappointment. Although the whites were runny, but bruh the yolks were solid 🥹
Their kopi tarik was quite nice but yeah quite sweet to me although i requested for less sweet.
My friend ordered the Original egg tart and Charcoal egg tarts (apologies, not sure what's the name something Golden something). The tart crust for the original was super fragile, after 1 bite you can feel/see the tart crumbled. Taste wise, it's just okay.
The Black Charcoal tart, to my friends, it tasted the same as the original but i can taste that the black one has more "dairy" smell to it.
There's 1 time we asked one of the waitresses for tissue, she directed us to the self-service counter for it. Hmm then may I ask what's the 5% service fee for? 🥹 you can see that the shop has a ton of staffs, but you have to pay at the counter and get your own cutleries/tissues. It's exactly like the meme...
Read moreArrived close to 11am. The shop is clean. They gave us the menu to order. Wanted to order Yuan yang - Cold (Less sweet) Hong Kong Tea (Runaway yong) - Hot Chicken pie Charcoal egg tart Kopi egg tart
When to cashier to pay. Was informed item 3 and 4 have a waiting time of 30 minutes!!!! So I decided to omit the 2 items.
Yuan yang is too sweet for me. Then when I checked the bill, there was no remark of less sweet that I made.
Second drink which is also a signature. It was ok.
The Kopi tart crust was a bit burnt, so the "burnt" taste is more prominient than the coffee tart filling. To be fair, the filling have a smooth consistency.
I was a bit taken a back by the long waiting time of the pastries when they start at 9am.(if I am not mistaken). So I went to the open kitchen where they are preparing the food. I saw 3 ovens (unless there is a huge oven hidden somewhere) that can likely fit 2 trays of tarts (12 for each tray). At least you need to bake 20min to 25min for each batch. Then it explained why the delay/long waiting time.
Those who do not mind waiting, can...
Read moreWe decided to visit the café at Damai on May 10 and were quite impressed by the crowd—it seemed like a popular spot. Fortunately, we found an empty table and made our way to the counter to place our order. We tried some of their signature items, including the tarts and coffee, which we were looking forward to.
However, our experience took a disappointing turn. While we were still enjoying our coffee and chatting, one of the staff members approached our table without saying a word and began clearing our dishes—even though we hadn’t finished our food yet. It felt incredibly rude and gave us the impression that we were being rushed to leave. For a place that charges premium prices, we expected much better service and hospitality.
Overall, the food was decent, but the poor service left a sour taste. We hope the management addresses this kind of behavior to ensure a more respectful experience for...
