Hidden Gem at Feringgi Bay – Barracuda Grill

One evening while staying near the beach in Penang, we decided to explore the Feringgi Bay area in search of something good to eat. We walked all the way from our hotel along the beach to the restaurant strip, checking out various spots — even reaching the end where an Arabian restaurant sits. As we were heading back, still undecided, a small container-style food stall caught our eye. The menu at Barracuda Grill looked interesting and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. On a whim, we decided to give it a try — and it turned out to be the best decision of the night.

The food was simply delicious — freshly prepared, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. We ended up loving everything we ordered and polished off every bite. It’s rare to stumble upon a place that delivers such a satisfying surprise, especially in a touristy area. This humble little grill truly impressed us.

Highly recommended if you're looking to try something unique, affordable, and genuinely tasty in the Feringgi Bay area. We'll definitely return next time...

I walked into this place with expectation the food is going to be average or below average because after all, Ferrringhi Bay is a touristy place. Yes, I'm a local Penangite & we have our usual not so touristy food. Surprise, surprise, the food is damn good. Sting ray is perfectly spiced, bbq to perfection - Exceeded my local taste bud expectation. We had grilled sea bass - fresh & tasted excellent. If you're visiting this place, please make sure you order their spicy sotong/squid. It's the BEST, I would say in Penang Island. Total damage comes up to RM200+, but I won't describe it as a damage because it's extremely rare find - restaurant with beautiful sunset by the beach with food which surpassed our local taste bud’s expectation. This is my third visit to Barracuda, and it’s always a delightful experience. The highlight is definitely their grilled stingray and sotong—perfectly cooked and seasoned with rich, flavorful spices. We loved them so much that we ordered two plates each! The vibe here is super chill, with a beautiful sea view and a nice breeze while you dine. Plus the service is exceptional—the staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and go out of their way to ensure a great dining experience.
