Visited the place with my parents for dinner in May 2022.

The negatives: Unwelcoming for people who don't speak Chinese, with vendors dismissing you if you aren't fluent. Unwelcoming on these grounds. The cleanliness is so so, with litter scattered here and there as expected of a hawker stall environment. It's hectic and busy, with vendors getting so busy they might even forget your order altogether. The coconut served is old and not fresh, containing barely any flesh. Prices are above average, more towards the expensive side for the seafood. Not recommended dishes: a) deep fried mantis shrimp (RM18). Taste just like floor. b) hokkien mee (RM8). Tastes like mi goreng instant noodles heated up with frozen fish cakes on the side. Slight metallic after taste of the tip of the tongue. c) spicy lala (RM33). Many closed and empty lala shells. While sweet and flavorful, the sauce was too thick. Way too many not recommended dishes from the amount we ordered for it to be okay.

The positives: There's a huge variety of food here ranging from the local Penang food, malaysian-chinese food, Sarawakian food, Japanese ramen, Korean deep fried chicken, western chops etc. The highlights would be the seafood that can be simply ordered for a majority of the shop. Recommended dish: a) The kway teow soup noodle from the stall Duck Meat Koay Teow T'hng (RM6.50). Flavorful, fresh and clean. b) prawn mee (RM6.50). c) grilled squid with chilli on the side (RM43).

Mediocre dishes that you may try, but it's rather average: a) Cuttlefish kangkung (RM15). Decent. Not enough prawn paste. b) Oysters. We ordered 3 for around RM23.

Overview, if you're visiting Penang from overseas or interstate, you're probably advised to go eat elsewhere and not here. Way overhyped.

Side-note: I originally gave it 3 stars but my parents explicitly requested to make it 2 stars. So 2...

This is a surprisingly busy place to get food. There always seems to be a crowd and sometimes hard to find a table. The environment has a lot of hustle and bustle of diners and food servers walking around. The smell is heavy with food and it may get a little warm even with fans around. Parking will depend on whether the next door restaurant is having an event or wedding reception. There's a large area of parking but fills up quickly.

As for food, the choices are impressive and walking around will give you an idea what to eat. I tried a few stalls and mostly are good. The grilled seafood is famous and looks & smells delicious.

The satay is lightly grilled but I kind of miss a lightly burnt smell and taste of satay meat. The meat is however delicious. The peanut sauce however is too creamy for my taste. The fried oyster is generous and also have above average sized oyster. The bubble waffle is light and crunchy while the lobak is also too lightly fried. I somehow like my lobak to be of a darker brown. But I can't fault the taste. Flavour is there.

In short, good food and choices, but the environment can be a bit distracting and you will come out with your clothes having a lingering...

Hawker style dining place.

We ordered steamed crab (RM28 for 1), sambal stingray (RM41 for 2 pax, price goes by weight), long beans in their standard stir fry style (RM12) and garlic scallops (RM15 each) from the first store.

Steamed crab was the popular food here, evident from the name of place I guess. It’s relatively fresh, but I would probably prefer it in sauces (you can choose to do so). We only bought one to try. Sambal stingray was really dry…. skip! Long beans was the best dish here tbh it was sooo good. Garlic scallops was delicious as well.

Chicken satay in original and honey (RM12 for 10 sticks) was the worst satay I ever had. I have never not liked the satay I ate until this. It’s dry and the flavour is just not there.

Did not enjoy the dailokmee and oyster omelette (RM27 for both) too. The dailokmee I had in SG was too good lol this does not even come close…. Oyster omelette is just fried eggs and oyster, not what I was used to. Tasted very plain on its own, but the chilli was the saviour.

2 bottles of Heineken & 1 stout is RM64 just for reference.

Overall, an okay meal. There’s still a lot other stores there that we...
