Nautilus Bay Home Inn — Hotel in George Town

This is the worst host I have ever encountered. I ended up requesting for refund from Airbnb and had to move out around 12am after few hours of argument. Despite long hours of drive to Penang, mentally and physically drained, I would rather endure the sleepiness and tiredness to find a new place at midnight than to engage with arguments that go nowhere with the host. I simply had enough of all the nonsense. I booked two rooms for three person. I brought two friends along who are living in Penang. The host wasn’t there when we reach, instead I were told to take the keys and get in on our own. There was no mention of any house rule. The fact is my message in Airbnb website did not get reply at all before booking the rooms, we only communicated about the arrival time and where to locate the keys via phone. He didn’t even tell me that the room is a small space renovated from garage and the ventilation is bad, very humid and had strong moth ball smell. We went in from the back, the garage entrance. I parked my car at the front door, he didn’t allow us to get in through the front door and when I asked why, he didn’t say a word, but later he mentioned other guests were getting in via front door during our argument later at night. When we were out to have meal a short while after arrival, he called and said he knew we were taking extra person because he could see it from CCTV and additional charges of rm20 would be needed. The room’s Airbnb profile stated no extra charges for extra person and we did not have plan to invite friends yet so I did not thought of informing the host initially. But since we were all females and for greater sense of security, later we decided to invite our friends to stay with us. We thought we would tell him later we change our mind and we can pay for that extra charges. After coming back from meal, we found out someone went into the room. He went into the room to turn off air conditioning and lights without notice and it was not even mentioned during the call. I confronted him on phone that he shouldn’t do that and he agreed to let us add mattress without any additional charges. When he reached, he insisted us to watch the CCTV videos to prove that he didn’t steal anything. It wasn’t only about security of our property, it is also about him not respecting our privacy! Things started to change afterwards. He refused to let us to have the free additional mattress. Given reason of the quality of bed cannot support more person on it, so one of us told him she is not used to sleep on soft mattress and prefer sleeping on the ground so she did not want a new mattress. Then he went on to nit pick on us not switching off the electrical appliances when we were not there because doing so will cause the electricity to trip. But how would two small rooms in the garage of the big three-storey house (most rooms are unoccupied)...

Pre booking:|(+) Booked this home stay 2/3 months before the actual stay in during 2017 day 4 Chinese new year. The 3 storey Terrance home stay consist of 8 bedrooms was just nice for my family vacation 17 pax for two nights. The pre booking was smooth and fine. The owner was very attentive to my request and queries.|(-) It was about RM800++ per night for the whole house.||During stay in:|i) Home stay compound and facilities|(+) 8 rooms location|- Two rooms located next to car pouch at the back end (queen size bed rooms with toilet attached).|- One room located at ground floor next to kitchen compound (single bed room with shared toilet).|-Three rooms at 1st floor (2 rooms with queen bed size bed with shared toilet and master room with king size bed with toilet attached).|- Two rooms at 2nd floor (1 room with single bed with shared toilet and 1 room with queen size bed with toilet attached.|- 2 car pouch|(+) In room facilities|- Bathroom with water heater, shampoo and body shampoo, and place to hang your towel and clothes. |- Kitchen with well functioned equipment such as refrigerator, microwave, drinking water filter, utensils, and etc.|- Iron,washing machine and TV with Astro channel was provided as well.|- WIFI was quite good.||(ii) Check in |This was the downside of it. As when we reached the hotel, all the way from Kuantan,Pahang and early check in was requested much earlier, it was not ready for us as the owner having few other unit to check out and short of manpower. I'm was not happy about it especially when you have elderly and kids tagged along. ||(iii) Location and security|-The home stay located next to Perkapalan Singh(near seaside) and ample of restaurant in walking distance.|- Homestay security was just fine as well.||Overall it was a pleasant stay in. It will be great if the pricing can be reduce much more. For me, maybe won't return to stay in as there is ample of hotel / home stay nearby to tourist spots. As this compound as bit far from those common visit place and encountered traffic jams...

Hate to put it here but I had bad experience with this place.

The service is really bad and the guy just want our money without giving good service. We came to the place at 2pm, there was one guy said the room wasn’t ready because he was still cleaning it, and he said it took 1 hr to clean it. He should’ve known there would be guests why he didn’t prepare. He even asked us to move to another room but pay the same price cash and asked us to cancel the room we booked on OYO. Since we booked the room just to store our luggages, we decided to wait for him to finish cleaning. He also offered a karaoke room that charge RM15/hr, so 2 of our friends went for karaoke, the other 2 were taking a nap in the living room. He knew that we were tired but he didn’t have such hospitality to speed the cleaning so we can have a nap a bit in the room!! Even when two of my friends finished karaoke for 1 hr, he hasn’t finished the cleaning!!!! After my friends finished the karaoke, we were about to go to eat and the guy said he will bring our bags to our room. But when we went back from restaurant to the house we still saw our bags in our living room!!! We actually never seen how’s our room look like as he never showed us because his excuse was he’s still cleaning it. Clean what lah took more than 1 hr??!? He also offered us to drive to the airport, at first we agreed to have him to send us BUT when we took our luggages he was eating and conveniently asked us to wait for him. No hospitality at all!! (1) didn’t prepare the room well, took so long time to ‘clean’ (2) not even showed us the room (3) didn’t offer us anything knowing we were tired (4) said he will bring our luggages to the room, but nothing done
