Daorae Korean BBQ Tanjung Tokong — Restaurant in George Town

The last time I was at this restaurant, it was good. Not great, but an acceptable level of good. Fast forward to this evening, it was completely night and day. First off, the ‘manager’ seated us in a very unacceptable area where it had several tables for 2 and 4’s. The air conditioning was spewing fumes from the exhausts from all the table that were using the exhaust system. It was to the point of unbearable comfort so I asked the ‘manager’ what is going on? His replied was, yeah it’s a problem and walked away. No apologies offered nor asking us if we wanted to move to another table. Mind you, the restaurant was NOT full. The food arrived in a fractured fashion and the pork was really too fatty for a $248 set (which we were told would be enough) for 3 persons. The ‘steamboat’ was mediocre and the quality was sub par. The one kind meat (pork) from the set was abysmal. We have to flagged down a couple of waiters for more condiments as portion served for 3 was inadequate. Several hand waiving gestures later it was replenished. Service sucks! The scallion pancake was store bought and not even cooked properly. The best part of this dining experience was the slices of watermelon served at the end of the meal. Smokey, fuming with bbq scents, mediocre food and lack of service garnered them 1 star. Service was friendly but slow. Had lack of staff in the room for quick and attentive service. The banchan served was poor and just 6 options available. Usually is served an complementary soup, however they didn’t serve us. After order 3 meats, our initially requested pancake has served at the end, being waited almost 40min and often asking about the status of the order. Sad to see tables paying less and getting all the complementary banchan, watermelon and “sweets” at payment.

Overall satisfied, but honestly saying, being a regular of SRI HARTAMAS branch, those others restaurants need to work hard to achieve the quality and service of that branch.

Yes, still the best KOREAN bbq place in the Island (my personal opinion) their beef marinated (or any other meet marinated with Daorae Sauce) it’s amazing. Worth a try.

Parking, won’t be easy on crowded times or weekend. If can take a grab will be easier.

Our family was dying for a good Korean BBQ dinner so we decided to seek the best one in town. Google search did the hard work for us and we ended up at Daorae 다오래 Korean BBQ Restaurant.

Well, cutting to the chase, it was well worth it. Quick assessment is as follows: 1. Grill meat (Sam Gyeop Sal 삼겹살 and Yang Nyeom Galbi 양념갈비) had low seasoning on it, which we liked. 2. Waiters were well-trained and extremely prompt (especially with ban chan 반찬 refills. 3. Free Dwen Jang Jji Gae 된장찌개 was amazing. One negative: The place seems to be designed in a way that smoke gets trapped inside the place. Should put some more thoughts on the air ventilation. Further to explore: Would love to try their regular menu (식사) as their Mool Naeng Myeon 물냉면 and Jan Chi Gook Su 잔치국수 were amazing.
