A Culinary Masterpiece: The Best Omakase in Penang

I recently had the privilege of dining at what I can confidently say is the best omakase experience in Penang. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I knew I was in for something special. The ambiance was intimate and elegant, perfectly setting the stage for what was to come.

The chef was a true artist, carefully curating each course with precision, using only the freshest ingredients—many of which were flown in directly from Japan. Every dish was a delightful journey, from melt-in-your-mouth sashimi to the perfectly balanced nigiri, each piece was crafted with an attention to detail that’s hard to find.

One of the standout dishes was the toro (fatty tuna), which was the freshest I’ve ever tasted. The chef's use of seasonal ingredients elevated each course, making it clear that this wasn’t just dinner—it was an experience. The pacing of the meal was perfect, allowing me to savor each bite without feeling rushed. The delicate flavor pairings, the perfect seasoning, and the balance of textures left me in awe.

The service was exceptional too. The chef engaged with us throughout the meal, explaining the origin and preparation of each dish, which added an extra layer of appreciation.

It’s safe to say that this omakase was worth every penny, and I left the restaurant with no regrets. If you’re in Penang and looking for an unforgettable dining experience, this is the place to go. It’s a must-visit for sushi lovers and those seeking the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine in the city.

Rating: 10/10 No hesitation, no second thoughts—just pure...

I had the best omakase in Penang here! The food taste is incredible and they really use high quality ingredients for their dishes. I remembered being disappointed with the cheap ingredients used by Kyuu (another omakase restaurant). I actually do crave going back there again. It’s interesting that no sushi is served but the last claypot rice dish is unlimited, you can have as much refill as you wish and that’s a good idea because definitely no customer will go hungry when they leave.

My friend who travels a lot said that the best omakase was had in Japan, second best in Taiwan and this is the 3rd 😁.

The servers are very attentive to all diners such as giving a box for ladies bag, always there to refill drinks without being asked, help / show the way to toilet and quick to clean away dishes. They are also very prompt to reply to Whatapp enquiries. The 2 young partners chef clearly has passion for their food.

The bathroom is very nice and clean like a 5 star hotel. The only complain is that they can only serve limited diners sitting in front of the open kitchen and there is not much privacy for conversations being cramped...

A special occasion was made all the more special experience with the team at Komorebi Dining, Penang, Malaysia.

Chef Wayne, whom we know from his days in Singapore and explored his own new venture in Penang showcasing Kappo-style dishes with his signature in a beautiful location on Jalan Pintal Tali, George Town; now in its second month of opening.

Winding a journey through 12 different tastes, flavours and delights, the team helmed by Chef Wayne and Chef Tey took the time to exquisitely explain the process of cooking, the expected textures and tastes of each of the dishes, paired with finest sakes.

Whether it be the crisp-wafered creamy Monkfish Liver, beautifully poached Abalone, the delicate gelatinous sweet Octopus, richness of the Shirako done two different ways, freshly crisp charcoal-grilled Eel, each dish had it’s own story, its own talking point and experience.

We loved every bit of the experience and made all the more special helmed by Wayne and his team! We wish the team all the...

Been following chef Wayne from Singapore to Penang , this is the first time I dine at his own restaurant in Penang . What I can see that there is a massive improvement of his cuisines in term of the balance of flavor and use of ingredients. He must have been through a lot of effort to import those top ingredients from Japan to his restaurant. Now with his able assistant Chef Teh he can do a lot more . I had the dinner menu for lunch as I just need to see his progression and easily I would say at this standard his restaurant would be the best in Penang for kappou style dining . I can see this restaurant very soon to be feature in the Michelin guide . Pls make reservation before you go as I was told it’s always fully booked.

If only Google allowed more than 5 stars—I’d gladly give more. Every dish was a masterclass in flavour balance, showcasing thoughtful curation and refined technique. The ingredients were of exceptional quality, and the chefs not only delivered on taste but also satisfied my curiosity by explaining the ingredients used and the cooking process in detail. The skill and care behind each creation were evident. While it comes at a premium, calling it “pricey” would be a disservice to the craftsmanship involved. Absolutely worth every cent. - From, Maalini & Ruben ♥️

This place is one of the handful amazing fine dining options in Penang. Everything is truly an experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant is so calming and the concept of having only a limited seating makes it more engaging with the customer and chef The food was 10/10 from presentation to flavour. Each dish from the course had unique flavours & the freshness of the ingredients is peak. Would definitely recommend to everyone to try it before the place becomes popular to make a booking. Hoping to try out their lunch menu soon. A truly 5 Star Fine dining
