Don't be easily fool by reviews that Penang hawker's food are the best, yes for street food maybe but not when it comes to authentic cruisine.
We're a bunch of self proclaimed food samplers eager to tryout delicious cooking, while strolling around busy Georgetown in Penang we accidentally stumble upon this restaurant that serves Nyonya food called Sifu Nyonya cruisine. Being an authentic food lover and someone that's eager on sampling food, we have no second thoughts and ventured in.
We were greeted by the proprietor of the restaurant Mr. Peter Leong with his friendly and warm charm, we were then introduced different varieties of Nyonya cooking, since there were only 3 of us, we ordered 5 dishes came highly recommended by Peter. First was sambal sweet potato leaves, Nyonya curry chicken, prawn fitters, sambal udang and finally the perut ikan. I can tell you this, they're all delicious yummy and tasted excellent to us. You pay for the best, forget about the prices, when you venture for the best, don't mind paying a little more for the rest. For whatever reasons, never leave out the sambal sweet potato leaves and the perut ikan (served only on Monday & Wednesday), the rest is still awesome but since I m into spicy food, my choices falls short on these two.
An enjoyable place to have your meals comes with added bonus, this place goes the extra mile with a hygienic and clean layouts. Plates and cutlery are wrapped with plastic wraps, first that I've seen on the island and the politeness and friendly service thrown in is simply magnificent.
Would definitely go again and have a second bite on other dishes and flavours what's the menu has to offer. Judge for yourself this hidden heritage and prove me wrong.

Read moreThis Nyonya style food is just so so to my taste. We ordered 7 dishes but only two were good. The Stingray curry and sambal hebi is quite tasty. I enjoyed it. The other 5 dishes were quite disappointing. I've tried other Nyonya restaurants and this one is disappoints me. There was another Nyonya restaurant that's Michelin rated that's pretty good but the price is ridiculously higher with less quantity but I didn't pay for it so bring it on 😋 My most favourite is Nyonya Breeze that's serves my only two permanent favourites. Sambal Goreng and Huan Chu heok masak lemak. I visited Sifu twice and didn't really enjoy the food here except for Sambal hebi and stingray curry. Both times were not paid by me anyway but good should be enjoyed and should taste good. I guess my taste is too sharp for certain restaurants to please me 🤗 Sorry for rating this place at 3 stars. It's my personal opinion and taste. Anyone should try it as no one have the same taste as me 😁 I won't be describing the other 5 dishes ordered as it will take some time to type it out. You just have to go try...
Read moreRead about this restaurant which is supposed to be on the Michelin Bin Gourmand list. It's a small cozy restaurant and the senior staff Randy was friendly and helpful. The food was above average in quality and the stand out dish was the chicken rendang. We also had the Assam Stingray, Turnip with a side of blachan, fried chicken all good. The lack of plain rice as an option was a little off putting becasue the option of blue pea flower didn't add to the flavour just the price of a serving of rice. Prices on the. Whole not unreasonable, maybe on the high end for locals. Flavours pretty authentic and worthy of a return visit. Although the wait staff were a little too enthusiastic about wanting to clear the dishes elbowing one of us a little reaching forward to do so. I assume accidentally but like I said a little too quickly. As a table of 6 we shared a couple of deserts and I did like the the glutinous black rice pudding, not impressed by the Bobo Chacha. Otherwise 👍🏽and worth a...
