We come to this airconditional restaurant twice to taste all its signature dishes. First night for dinner on weekday 6pm, there were a lot of parking spaces at the roadside. The second morning for breakfast on the weekend at 9am, very limited parking spaces at the roadside.
On both occasions, 80% of the tables were occupied. Self scan QR code for ordering. Serving within 30 minutes upon ordering. Please note that the morning menu was different from night. For example, char hor fun (egg noodle 滑蛋河) and fried laksa, coffee were only available before 3pm.
Bamboo tok tok mee was delicious. Noodle was nicely done, sauce was appropriate, and soup was great. Wonton was mediocre. RM12.90 per serving. 3 stars
Curry mee was good as well. RM15.90 were small serving with roasted pork. Unfortunately, when the curry mee was served, it only had one piece of roasted pork. After I complained to the waiter, then only roasted pork, about 8 pieces were added. Taste wise, curry broth was ok. Noodle was just nice, while ingredients were appropriate. 3 stars
Teochew kuih mixed platters were poorly done. Too oily and lsvk of depth in taste. RM13.50 for 4 types of chai kuih of poor quality was not worth. 1 star
Teochew guangjiang kuih was poorly done as well. Too oily and overfried. RM7.90. 1 star
On the other hand, double yam coconut puddings were outstanding. It was not too sweet, and all the ingredients were very fine. Recommended. RM15.70 per serving. We loved the creative ideas of coconut inside the springy Taco ball. 5 stars
Signature seafood wat tan char hor fun was the greatest disappointment. The noodle was overfried until burnt, and it was presented cold. The sauce and ingredients were ok. RM14.90. 1 star
Fried laksa was flavourful and presented hot. The noodles were fried just nice, and sauce was not too strong. RM14.90 per serving. 3 stats
The butter coffee was mediocre. Nothing fancy and special. Just a normal hawker standard coffee at RM6.90.
As conclusion, come here for the savoury of some penang food of normal standard under comfortable ambience. We personally feel that dessert is...
Read moreI love cafe hopping every weekends, and this is by far the worst cafe I have ever patronised. Seriously. I wanted so much to like it... Because I'm a Georgetown girl through and through, but I will do the public injustice if I give it stars based on the locality. We ordered the signature lam fried rice, which is nothing to shout for. The usual wat tan gravy on top of egg fried rice which is bland. I think you can tell from the pictures. We also ordered ckt, which i think should be taken out from the menu. The koay teow are not fried well enough -- you know how the strips of koay teow all tangled together so when you eat ckt, it is clumpy and tasted of lye water. Another huge let down was the char laksa -- please. Dont let the name fool you. This is basically dry laksa. It is not Fried. At. All. If you've tried laksa johor... Well it is a wannabe laksa johor but minus the tangy, flavourful ikan parang broth. Taste wise it tasted somewhat like my own attempt at eating sardines with noodles from home, except here I get some prawns and bits of meat for protein. I also ordered butter coffee, and sad to say, even the piece of butter did not live up to expectation. My butter coffee didnt taste like the butter coffee i always order whenever I take a morning flight at PIA. The only beverage that is acceptable is iced chinese tea. Visit at...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at 乐记茶室, and it was a truly satisfying experience from start to finish. The cafe is clean, spacious, and comfortably air-conditioned — a perfect escape from the heat outside. The service was prompt and friendly, with staff quickly attending to orders and ensuring everything was served fresh.
I tried a variety of their best-selling dishes, including the prawn curry mee, wantan mee, Lok Kee char laksa, and char hor fun — all of which were bursting with authentic flavors. The Teochew chai kuih (mixed), Portuguese tart, and original egg tart were freshly made and delicious, while the siew pao had a rich, savory filling wrapped in flaky pastry.
For drinks and lighter bites, I enjoyed the hor ka sai, kaya butter toast, and classic half-boiled egg with toast — comfort food done right. The Jumbo Ice Taohia was the perfect sweet finish to the meal, both refreshing and flavorful.
What impressed me most was the generous portion sizes and reasonable prices, especially considering the quality and variety of the food. Everything tasted homemade with great care. I highly recommend 乐记茶室 for anyone looking to enjoy a hearty, satisfying meal in a cozy, clean setting. A place I’ll...
