Very bad experience..which went as below
We have seen this place from outside and it looks nice and classy…so after a great dinner/wine at The book cafe just round the corner, we decide to go here for some wine. It was 4 of us (two couples) We were told that they don’t serve wine by the glass and we need to order a bottle. So we ordered a bottle…the young waiter tried telling us that we should order the organic wine because "it is very good" ….however when we asked him what kind of wine is it…he was blank and he did not have a clue…so he went in and came with his colleague with two bottles (much more expensive than our chosen wine)….we decided to stick to our previously chosen wine….the waiter now got our bottle…opened it and straight poured it in the 4 glasses even before we could taste it or even say anything…..you do not do that ever….and especially if you are positioning yourself at a fine dining kind of price point…YOU DEFINITELY DONOT DO THAT. Saying that the waiters are new does not cut it…it’s your job to train your waiters. We took a sip of the wine and just didn’t like it at all…and it’s worth mentioning here that all 4 of us are regular wine drinkers and we can definitely tell a good wine from a not-so-good wine….we decided to cut our losses and move on somewhere else…leaving the unfinished bottle and the 4 full glasses of wine….as it was important for us not to spoil our evening with bad wine/sub-standard (untrained waiters) service…..so we ask for the bill…..while we were waiting for the bill we noticed that the guests sitting next to us ordered some ice for their drink (they were having scotch)…I saw another waiter brought just one piece of ice in his hand (at least he was wearing gloves) and plonked in the drink…I found it quite funny…they guest had to tell the waiter to bring an ice bucket instead of just one piece of ice….I am sure their excuse to this will also be ‘our waiters are new’.
Our bill came and as lot of patrons who are in a group would do..we put in 2 credit cards and asked them to split the between the two cards. This is a very standard thing which all readers will agree…. The waiter came and said they cannot do this….Duh?….I was really irritated by then and just wanted to leave….I just gave them the cash (we refused the service charges)….at this point the main guy (not sure he was the owner or the manager) came out…when we told him what had happened and expressed our irritation, rather than apologising….he just waved us off with his hand gesture ….which basically was to the effect…’don’t bother me’/‘get lost' and asked the head waiter (guy in a chef’s coat….have to mention here that this head waiter was courteous and apologetic) to deal with us and moved aside….We were amazed that a restaurant which is trying to position itself as a fine dining restaurant can do that….forget about apologising….the guy's attitude was of condescending and very rude
To be fair…the young waiters were probably trying to help but clearly they had no training (the only think you seem to have trained them to do is try and sell organic wine)…but a manager/owner behaving like the way he did was unbelievable….we will obviously never step...
Read moreAnother good quality fine dinning which I tried last week. It's Asian fusion cuisine and I would say it's more like southeast Asian flavor.
The chef infuse the local flavor into local fresh ingredients.
The amuse appetizers are stunning. Especially the fresh oyster which is a local farm raised version, it is very fresh, creamy ,fat and sweet. Absolutely sashimi grade quality. I didn't know there's oyster farm in Penang. It will be perfect if the fish sauce in the dressing mixture can be reduced.
All the other courses are having a touch of the southeast Asian flavor. The mains are perfect. The smoked duck is tender with juices plus homemade thin shell and condiments which surprise me again. My braised veal is also very juicy and tender. All sauces and dressing are execellent.
So far a really good experience. This one will be a good choice for foreigner who cannot eat spicy but still want to get the touch of southeast Asia flavor. Should target on foreigners to do some more marketing.
We are sitting in the bar area which is nice and casual for me see some making...
