Tucked into the bustling, artsy streets of George Town, Reggae Cafe Penang is a soulful spot where good vibes, chill reggae beats, and mouth-watering food come together in perfect harmony. Whether you're winding down after a day of sightseeing or just looking for a cozy corner to vibe and eat, this café wraps you in warmth the moment you walk in.
Let’s talk about the food because this is where Reggae Cafe truly shines. Their menu is an eclectic fusion of local love and global flair, and every dish that comes out of their kitchen has a unique twist that makes it unforgettable.
I kicked things off with their Nutcracker Pasta, and honestly, it was a game changer. The pasta was cooked al dente, tossed in a rich, slightly spicy nut-based sauce that packed a punch of earthy depth and creaminess. Cashews, peanuts, and a blend of spices created a bold flavor that was unlike anything I’ve tried before. Topped with crunchy crushed nuts and a hint of chili oil, it was both comforting and exciting an absolute must-try for adventurous palates.
Next up was the Creamy Pasta, and this one was pure indulgence. Silky smooth, loaded with garlic, herbs, and a perfectly balanced cream sauce that didn’t feel heavy it just melted in the mouth. Whether you're a fan of Western comfort food or just need a break from spice, this dish delivers all the cozy, satisfying vibes in one plate.
Now, the real star of the show for me? The Jamaican Sweet Burger. This burger is something special thick, juicy grilled chicken or plant-based patty (you can choose!), glazed in a subtly sweet, smoky Jamaican sauce that’s absolutely addictive. Sandwiched between a soft bun and layered with caramelized onions, fresh greens, and a touch of aioli, every bite is a mix of sweet, savory, and perfectly spiced goodness. Served with a side of crisp wedges, it’s comfort food with a reggae soul.
And when it comes to drinks, Reggae Cafe knows how to keep it classic and cozy. Their cappuccino is smooth and perfectly brewed, with a creamy froth on top and a deep, aromatic flavor that pairs beautifully with every dish. It’s ideal whether you’re starting your morning or relaxing in the afternoon. If you’re in the mood for something more mellow, their tea pot is a lovely touch served warm and fragrant, perfect for sipping slowly as you take in the laid-back ambiance around you.
Beyond the food, what makes Reggae Cafe truly special is its atmosphere. There’s an effortless charm in the air warm lights, friendly staff who treat you like an old friend, and reggae tunes that carry you away. It's the kind of place where meals turn into memories, and one visit just isn’t enough.

Read moreLocated along one of the busiest and most vibrant streets of George Town, Penang, Reggae Cafe enjoys a prime location right beside the renowned China House. With its curated furniture, tasteful interiors, and overall laid-back atmosphere, the cafe presents itself as an inviting space for anyone seeking a casual spot to unwind or catch up with friends.
During my visit, I ordered a flat white, creamy pesto pasta, and a Pineapple Sunrise. While Reggae Cafe is known for its cakes (something I plan to try next time), I didn’t get a chance to sample them on this occasion. It’s worth mentioning that they have a birthday cake promotion, offering a complimentary slice during your birthday month, as well as a membership programme that comes with discounts and free cake. And guess what, I visited them a day before my birthday. Unfortunately, neither of these perks were proactively offered by the staff during my visit, which was a missed opportunity to enhance the customer experience.
Service was somewhat lukewarm. Upon entering, no one greeted or assisted me until I approached the cashier myself. I was then shown to a table, handed a menu, and instructed to place my order via QR code. The drinks arrived promptl, within five minutes, but the pasta took around 20 minutes to be served.
Starting with the flat white, I found it more like a ristretto in strength and consistency. It was overly bitter, with the bean’s subtle notes largely drowned out, and the foam was more than what one would typically expect from a well-poured flat white. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet expectations, especially considering the cafe’s trendy vibe.
The creamy pesto pasta came with a generous portion of grilled chicken breast, which was appreciated. However, the dish itself lacked flavour. The basil, olive oil, and nutty notes that typically define a good pesto were absent. It leaned more towards a generic creamy sauce rather than a true pesto—visually appealing, but lacking depth and authenticity in taste.
As for the Pineapple Sunrise, it was refreshing but underwhelming. The dominant flavour was orange rather than pineapple, and at its price point, it felt a bit overpriced for what it was.
Overall, while Reggae Cafe Penang delivers on ambience and location, it still has some way to go in terms of flavour, service consistency, and customer engagement. It’s a spot with potential, but I hope to see improvements on my next visit, especially when I return to try their...
Read moreI joined member and came for lunch with family. We ordered below dishes, 1.Chicken & Pineapple Pizza (Only 1 size, Large,we wanted to order medium but it's not available. Cheese portion was wnough but the Chicken slices was too little ans so thin till barely can taste it. Pineapple slices was too small) 2.Mushroom Soup (It's thick and flavourful but too salty) 3.Grilled Salmon (This was good but Salmon was too salty, Mashed Potato was not enough) 4.Smoked Duck Aglio Olio Pasta (This was ok but smoked duck and pasta portion too little) 5.Grilled Chicken Basil Pasta (The grilled chicken portion was good but too salty and grilled too long till very hard, pasta portion was little, quite oily and dry. If some cream is added then it'll be better) 6.Salmon Cabonara Pasta (Asked to Steam or Grill the Salmon as I didn't want to eat Fried Salmon but got rejected, but Chef agreed to boli the egg instead of adding it raw. Salmon was too salty, pasta was little but tasted good) 7.Tried the Chocolate and Cheese Cake and it's good but too sweet. Recommended things to improve 1.To provide small/medium/large size selection for pizza. 2.To reduce saltiness of all food or as per customer request as not all customers can eat very salty food. But the Chicken or Salmon might marinated earlier already. 3.To increase pasta portion as the price was high 4.To be willing to cater to customers request like Steam or grill the Chicken or fish if customers don't want to eat Fried food To reduce sugar level of cakes, better for customers' health and save cost too 6.We had to wait long to ask questions as only 1-2 staff were kind of in charge person which can answer but they were too busy preparing beverages or doing payments while others can't answer, please see how to improve this.
Hope the restaurant staff will read this review and get things improved as I spent 40 mins to write it sincerely. Keep up...
