My fiancĂŠ and I booked Oh Yeah Palace for our ROM lunch celebration, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We visited on 22 Feb from KL to try the food and finalize arrangements. We ordered chicken briyani (chicken tasted sweet), egg briyani, and mutton chukka (not flavourful). The service was slow, and it was clear they were understaffed. After lunch, we spoke to the person in charge, Ali, to ensure everything was properly arranged.
One day before the event (28 Feb), my fiancĂŠ went back to confirm everything with Ali to avoid any hiccups, as we were expecting 40 guests.
On the event day (1 March), we arrived at 1 PM, as planned. However, the PIC was not Ali, and we were informed they had run out of eggs, banana leaves, and, shockingly, served drinks in polystyrene cups. Even worse, we waited 45 minutes to an hour for the food because of staff shortages and walk-in customersâwhich should not have been our problem, given that we had a pre-booked event.
The stress and frustration of dealing with this on such an important day were overwhelming. While the food was okay after some adjustments, the poor service, lack of preparation, and disorganization were unacceptable.
If you canât deliver what you commit to, donât take bookings! Improve your management, stock availability, and customer service before hosting such events.
Key Takeaways: 1ď¸âŁ If you're short-staffed, donât accept large walk-in groups when a pre-booked event is scheduled. Prioritize your commitments. 2ď¸âŁ Poor customer service and lack of planningâeven basic things like drinks took too long. 3ď¸âŁ This staffing issue isnât isolated to this Penang branch; we also experienced it at their Brickfields outlet. 4ď¸âŁ Internal communication is severely lackingâAli, the so-called PIC, failed to inform his team about our booking, leading to chaos and insufficient food.
This level of disorganization caused unnecessary stress on our special day. If you canât commit to an event properly, donât take bookings! Improve your management, communication, and staffing before accepting group...

We recently celebrated a birthday at Oh Yeah Palace, and I must say â it was nothing short of perfect! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the built-in dĂŠcor and superb ambiance. The environment is so beautifully set up that it doesnât need any additional decoration â it already feels festive and welcoming.
The staff were incredibly polite, attentive, and accommodating throughout our event. Their hospitality made us feel like family. Everything was arranged smoothly and professionally, from the table settings to the flow of the meal.
The food? Absolutely flavorful and authentic! Each dish was served fresh, packed with spices and love. The banana leaf meal was a hit with all our guests, and their signature Tawa Prawn Fry was a standout. The flavors were deep and satisfying â clearly made with quality ingredients and passion.
A big thank you to the team for making our celebration so special. If youâre looking for a place with excellent food, kind-hearted service, and an atmosphere that feels just right, Oh Yeah Banana Leaf is a top choice. Highly recommended for both casual dining and...
Read moreOur recent family gathering for nearly 50 people at Oh Yeah Palace Penang for a 12pm lunch, for which we had booked and paid a deposit, unfortunately was not the best dining experience. Despite our prior arrangements, the restaurant seemed unprepared for our arrival. There was a noticeable lack of manpower, leading to delays in serving food and, at times, requiring our guests to serve themselves. We also had to repeatedly prompt staff to take or deliver orders.
While the banana leaf set food itself was genuinely tasty, the Ă la carte dishes were a letdown in terms of value. The Chicken Chettinad and Mushroom Masala, in particular, were not reasonably priced given the scant portions of chicken and mushrooms within them.
To our dismay, we were overcharged by RM20 for 10 dishes, a discrepancy we only realized after settling the bill. While the amount was refunded upon our notification, we found this oversight by the cashier to be concerning and not ethical.
On a positive note, we appreciated having a private space for our family gathering, which allowed us to enjoy our time together despite the...
