An excellent Hokkien style yam rice (RM1.50) and daikon soup (RM5.00) with pig tail (+RM1.00). A nostalgic treat from the city's rich cultural heritage by the main Chinese migrants that setup shop on this island. A stone's throw away from the Cecil Street market whose fresh produce feeds this culinary adventure. The other offerings include minced pork "bakki" and classic egg drop soups with belly pork in dark soy sauce. Also explored the stingray in curry and ladies finger, but the classic "wedding" chap chye with salted mustard green was both appetizing and memorable. I came here for the first time and I find the food good. I ordered a yam rice, the sour soup (chai boey), and one silky smooth egg soup. The yam rice is sticky and has strong yam flavour which is good. The chai boey is really flavorful. The sourness, sweetness, saltiness are perfect. It has a nice roasted meat flavour. And the egg soup is pretty good as well. The egg is very smooth despite cooking in a large pot for a long hours. I think they fry the egg using pork lard and pig's skin. Those crunchy bits that we can taste from the soup are adding another nice texture to the soup. The price is reasonable. Parking is available...
